Donaghmoyne’s quest for a 22nd successive Monaghan senior ladies football title was sensationally ended last Saturday.
A nine-point semi-final defeat to Magheracloone means that for the first time since 2002, Donaghmoyne won’t be involved in a county final. During their remarkable reign, the red and whites won a 21-in-a-row of county senior titles as well as five All-Ireland and 14 Ulster club senior crowns.
Ironically, Magheracloone are now looking forward to their first senior county final in 22 years against Emyvale who were comfortable winners over Emmet Óg in the second semi-final last weekend.
If you thought Donaghmoyne’s reign was a long one, it still falls a long way short of Ballymacarby’s extraordinary 42-year dominance of the Waterford ladies football scene.
