The late Liam Kearns

Liam Kearns has been posthumously inducted into the An Garda Síochána Coiste Siamsa Hall of Fame.

The Tralee man, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023 at the age of 61, was honoured at a function in Limerick last Friday night. Ronan Maher was also recognised for his achievement in captaining Tipperary to All-Ireland SHC glory last year.

The awards are held each year to recognise members of An Garda Síochána and Garda staff – serving and retired – who have made an outstanding and significant contribution to sports and sports administration.

Liam Kearns was one of Gaelic football's most respected managers who was in charge of Offaly at the time of his death, having had spells in charge of Limerick, Laois and Tipperary before that.

During his playing days, he won an All-Ireland MFC medal with Kerry in 1980 before going on to represent the Kingdom at U21 and senior level. However, it was as a manager that he made his name, firstly with Limerick, who were desperately unlucky not to win at least one Munster SFC title on his watch, and later with Tipperary.

His finest achievement was leading Tipp to a surprise All-Ireland SFC semi-final appearance in 2016.
