Mungret St Paul’s will play Newcastle West in the Limerick senior football championship final next Sunday after both sides came through their respective semi-finals yesterday.

Mungret dethroned Adare by edging the holders with a 0-17 to 1-13 victory in Askeaton to book their first county SFC final berth since 2001.

The victors edged a 0-10 to 1-6 lead at half-time, with Michael O’Mahony grabbing Adare’s goal, and the Raheen club were able to get over the line thanks to Shane Barry landing the last two points for them late on.

The other semi-final in the Treaty County saw Newcastle West defeating Fr Casey’s (2-16 to 0-14) after extra time at Mick Neville Park.

After the sides went in on 0-6 apiece at half-time in normal time, the 2023 champions hit the net through Iain Corbett but Fr Casey’s responded well to the concession and it took an Eoin Hurley point to force extra time for the Magpies.

The added periods would see Newcastle West dominate, moving up by three points before Emmet Rigter netted their second goal in the 73rd minute to book their final berth against Mungret St Paul’s next Sunday in Rathkeale.

The Tipperary senior football championship final is also set after Clonmel Commercials recorded a 1-9 to 0-8 win against Upperchurch-Drombane in Cashel on Saturday.

Sean O’Connor netted an 11th minute penalty for the 21-time champions and, after the sides went in all square at half-time (1-2 to 0-5), the points of O’Connor, Kevin Fahy, Cian Smith and Coleman Kennedy were instrumental in their team’s victory.

Commercials now advance to next weekend’s county final against Kilsheelan-Kilcash in search of what would be a record 22nd SFC title in the Premier County.
