Stephen Molumphy is set to be appointed as Waterford’s new senior hurling manager.

Multiple reports are circulating that the Ballyduff Upper clubman is set to succeed Peter Queally after having recently returned home from an overseas assignment with the Defence Forces.

Molumphy lined out for Waterford between 2006 and 2014, captaining the Deise County to its last Munster senior championship success in 2010 when they defeated Cork after extra time in the southern province’s decider.

The 2007 All-Star winner worked as a selector under Davy Fitzgerald when Wexford captured the Leinster SHC in 2019 and the following year would see him join Liam Cahill’s backroom team in Waterford before stepping away in mid-season due to work commitments.

He also managed Kerry’s hurlers for three years, steering them to a first Joe McDonagh Cup final appearance during his time in charge.

Now, a new chapter looks to be on the horizon for Molumphy as he is set to be proposed for the vacant managerial post in his home county in the coming days.
