Brian Fenton admitted to being blown away by Lyra’s rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann before last Sunday’s NFL clash between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park.
Before kick-off, the national anthems of both the United States of America and Ireland were performed. Laura McNamara, known professionally as Lyra, performed Amhrán na bhFiann, and the Cork woman didn’t disappoint, prompting Fenton to ask why the GAA can’t do likewise.
“Lucky to be in Croke Park yesterday, and this version of Amhrán na bhFiann was one of the best I’ve heard in all my days there,” the former Dublin midfield general posted on X.
“Can’t help feel the GAA are missing a trick by not giving spectators more of this stuff. Incredible moment.”
