Noel McGrath is expected to set a new record for championship appearances by a Tipperary senior hurler this weekend.

Having equalled Brendan Cummins’ record of 73 championship appearances after coming off the bench in last Sunday’s thrilling Munster SHC Round 1 draw with Limerick, the 34-year-old will overtake the legendary goalkeeper if he features against Cork at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday.

Once the first name on the Tipperary team sheet, McGrath has been used sparingly so far this year, but he remains a key figure nonetheless and showed this when firing over a brilliant point within a minute of his introduction against Limerick at FBD Semple Stadium.

In his 17th championship season with Tipp, the three-time All-Ireland SHC winner is a noted dual player who helped his beloved Loughmore-Castleiney to their third county SHC and SFC double in 11 years last year.
