Two former inter-county footballers are taking part in the new series of The Traitors Ireland on RTÉ.

Donal Casey, who played senior football for Leitrim, and former Westmeath minor Sam Omukoro are part of the 23-strong cast who are competing for a prize of up to €50,000 in Slane Castle. Hosted by Siobhán McSweeney of Derry Girls fame, contestants are divided into Faithfuls and Traitors, with the players required to form alliances, read their fellow contestants and ultimately work out who they can trust.

Casey helped Leitrim Gaels to an historic Leitrim SFC title last year, but was forced to retire at the age of just 24 after sustaining a serious knee injury during the final.

Nigerian-born Omukoro, meanwhile, was part of the Westmeath team that reached the 2013 Leinster MFC final, only to lose to Kildare. That Lake County side, which was managed by Tommy Carr and included current senior star Luke Loughlin, was the first to field three black players in a provincial decider with Athlone clubman Omokoro being joined by Israel Ilunga and Boidu Sayeh.

Like Loughlin, injury forced Sayeh to miss out on Westmeath’s Leinster SFC success this summer.
