Donegal are Dr McKenna Cup champions for the first time since 2018 thanks to a 2-17 to 0-11 victory over Monaghan in Omagh this evening.
The Ulster champions made the perfect start that saw Shea Malone’s goal surging them into a 1-0 to 0-1 lead and the same player would net again in the 53rd minute to seal the early silverware for the Tir Chonaill men.
The scores of Jason Irwin and Stephen Mooney helped to keep Monaghan within touching distance of their opponents before a Gavin Mulreany two-pointer (free) saw Jim McGuinness’s side go in with a 1-7 to 0-6 lead at half-time.

Andrew Woods’s free left a score between the teams again early in the resumption, but another free from beyond the arc by Mulreany soon got Donegal motoring again as scores from Conor O’Donnell and Malone followed.
Eoin McGeehan and Caolan McGonagle raised white flags that put seven between the sides with 10 minutes to go, with Eddie Walsh pulling one back for the Farney men before Malone landed another hammer blow.
From there, Jason McGee’s two-pointer and the points of Conor McCahill and Ryan McHugh would round off the 12-point win for Donegal who claimed their dozenth success in this competition.
