Mayo will play Galway in the Connacht FBD Football League final after recording a 0-22 to 1-6 victory over Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.
Andy Moran’s men overcame the concession of a 12th minute goal from Daire Cregg by sailing over scores via Rob Hennelly (two 45s), Ryan O’Donoghue, Aidan O’Shea and Enda Hession to move towards a 0-8 to 1-2 lead at half-time.
Jack Carney out five between the sides with a two-pointer less than 30 seconds into the restart and Adam Barrett would another before Tommy Conroy’s effort from distance made it 0-17 to 1-3 by the 41st minute.
Cregg (two frees) and Cian McKeon pulled back points for the Rossies to cut their deficit to nine, but back-to-back two pointers from Tom Lydon down the home stretch ensured an emphatic 13-point win for Mayo.
Moran’s side now get set face the Tribesmen next Saturday for some early season silverware, with Roscommon set to meet Sligo in the competition’s Shield final.
