Pat Spillane Jnr has transferred to Sligo club St Molaoise Gaels.

Son of the Kerry legend of the same name, Spillane joins from St Jude’s, whom he helped to a Dublin SFC final appearance against southside rivals Kilmacud Crokes in 2021. It will be his third club to play for, having started out with his native Templenoe in Kerry before switching to St Jude’s.

In 2022, he qualified to play for Sligo through his mother Rosarii, who hails from the Yeats County. The 26-year-old never represented Kerry at minor, U20 or senior level, though he was chosen to try out for an AFL draft combine in 2015 which was also attended by Cavan’s Thomas Galligan and Kilkenny’s Darragh Joyce, who was subsequently recruited by St Kilda and is now plying his trade with the Brisbane Lions.
