The GAA, Camogie Association and LGFA have reaffirmed their commitment to integration, despite the recent departure of steering group chair Dr Mary McAleese.

GAA president Jarlath Burns told the Joint-Oireachtas Committee on Wednesday that the three organisations remain committed to creating a single governing body and that a successor to McAleese is close to being appointed.

McAleese stepped down last month after the GAA said it could not commit to the proposed 2027 timeline for integration.

“Let me be equally straight here with you – the three presidents and three Ard Stiúrthóirí sitting before you this afternoon are here to say that we are committed to achieving integration of our organisations and we will achieve it,” Burns is quoted saying by BBC Sport NI.

He added that McAleese’s work over the past four years had brought the organisations “a huge way down the road”.

Burns expects a clearer timeline for integration to be available by next year’s GAA Congress.
