Dublin got their Leinster U20 football championship campaign off to a winning start last night (Wednesday) by edging out Wexford on a 1-18 to 1-15 scoreline.

Having trailed by three points at half-time at Chadwicks Wexford Park, where Cathal Keho’s goal proved the difference at the interval, the visitors got it level at 1-12 apiece after the change of ends and then fired in a Luke O'Boyle in the 45th minute to help get them over the line.

At Netwatch Cullen Park, Meath were impressive in their 5-19 to 2-9 win over Carlow as they got off to a flying start in this year’s Flood Cup race.

The Royals ran up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead before Cian Commons struck their first goal in the 15th minute and they’d net again two minutes later via John Harkin to move towards a 2-11 to 2-4 half-time lead, with skipper Dan Bolger and Jake Nolan firing in goals for the home side before the break.

Harkin grabbed his second goal seven minutes into the second-half and two more majors from Adam Ducie late on would ensure a comfortable victory for Meath on opening night.

In Portlaoise, Longford made their goals count in a 2-17 to 1-15 win against Laois.

Both of the Midlanders’ goals came in during the opening 16 minutes, with Mark Cooney and Luke Donnelly raising their green flags before Darren Brennan pulled one back for the O’Moore lads.

Longford held a 2-9 to 1-5 advantage at half-time and sent over the first two points of the restart ahead of a Donnelly two-pointer helping them further cushion their lead as they won out by five in the end.

Meanwhile, Kildare cruised to a 3-16 to 0-9 victory over Wicklow at the An Tochar GAA grounds.

Ronan Kelly’s goal on the eve of half-time sent the Lilywhites helped send the Lilywhites in with a 1-10 to 0-4 lead at the interval and they’d add more majors through Kelly and Jimmy Lynch to ensure a comfortable winning start to their campaign.
