Limerick edged Wexford by 1-15 to 1-14 in Rathkeale this afternoon to claim their first win in this year’s Allianz Football League Division 3 campaign.
A late, late goal from Peter Nash saw the Treaty men snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and handing their Leinster counterparts a first league loss in the process.
Two-pointers from Dylan Furlong and Cathal Kehoe helped Wexford to run up a 0-7 to 0-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes and they’d go on to hold a 0-9 to 0-5 advantage come half-time.
Eliah Riordan’s effort from distance and a Tony McCarthy point saw the hosts trim their deficit down to one ahead of Niall Hughes rattling their net, but Naughton and Cillian Fahy hit scores to keep Limerick in the hunt before the former saw his late two-pointer followed up by Nash's goal right at the death.
In Enniskillen, Clare made their goals count in a 2-18 to 0-18 win against Fermanagh in what was a bottom of the table clash.
Aaron Griffin hammered in the visitors’ first goal 11 minutes in as they went on to lead by 1-10 to 0-10 at half-time.
Fermanagh hit the first five scores of the restart via Ronan McCaffrey, Garvan Jones (2, 1 free), Josh Largo Ellis and Conor Love to move in front, but Mark McInerney’s two-point free would level it and a Daniel Walsh goal with seven minutes remaining sealed Clare’s first win of the campaign while dealing the Ernesiders a third straight defeat.
