Very similar final score to that of the semi final. Hope they go all the way! kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 11/04/2017 07:26:36 1978200 Link 0 |

yes double figures once again but Derry held their own until sending off. Well you can watch the Donegal V Dublin match in Breifni park next Saturday at 14-30hrs or it's live on TV also. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 11/04/2017 09:44:51 1978234 Link 0 |

I agree. Very poor performance. I wonder what teams do in training to get thumped like that. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 11/04/2017 15:08:06 1978431 Link 0 |
Slasher they practice handpassing and basketball moves. The new one now is hop it then handpass it like the basketball players. They are afraid to shoot inside the 45m line in case it drops short and the opposition break at speed. You don't even need to solo now you can dribble soccer style , little square pass and a nice tap in as Donegal did last night. Zoned defending and attacking . Gone are the days of taking a man on and beating him coming in from the wing. In trouble attacking? Well knock it back 50 m and start again. In the Kildare / Galway game last Sunday there was an average of 9 handpasses to 1 kick pass. Exciting stuff! Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 11/04/2017 15:34:10 1978450 Link 1 |
Sean, I note your point regarding the closeness of the scores until early in the second half. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 11/04/2017 16:25:11 1978491 Link 0 |
Watched the Donegal V Dublin match today and all I can say is thank god this is the last year of this competition. Now I know why Mayo beat Donegal in the national league it was so obvious. Maybe I am being too harsh maybe Donegal are jaded from all the players involved in the McKenna cup the league and the U21 competition but if this is the standard I am glad to see the end of it.

So you are glad to see an end to the competition because one of semis was bad to watch ( you forgot to mention the 2nd was excellent). Pretty dumb reason to want to see the end of what has been one of the most exciting tournaments in the last few years.

What another ridiculous comment. Agree 100% fredflint this competition has gave us plenty of enjoyment over the past 6/7 years. Great nights in enniskillen & Armagh where cavan supporters were filled with pride & has raised our expectations for the senior team this year & future years. That Donegal team was unrecognisable from the team that beat us & in my opinion it's extremely unfair to expect a team to play 3 championship matches in 10 days. Great performance by Galway in second semi & should be a cracking final. Overall in my opinion u21 competition was excellent as was ran over 7:8 wk period from first round to all Ireland final & not dragged out like the senior equivalent. bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 15/04/2017 22:19:45 1979746 Link 0 |
fredflint (Cavan) - Posts:757 - 15/04/2017 19:22:42 1979685 Just in case you were too young to remember it was I that wrote two weeks on the trot advocating that we should have a stand alone manager with the U21 players on both the Anglo Celt and the Cavan Post so don't talk to me about what I think of the U21. The idea was to strengthen players to take a place in the seniors the following years After having the misfortune of seeing 3 U21 games none excited me this I can tell you hand on heart. so in a nut shell glad to see the end of them. The standard in Munster must be just as bad as Ulster. I stood up to be counted I spoke out remember and the rest is history as far as the Ulster competition over the last 7 years is it ??? Sean - this is a forum, we can challenge the opinions of others. You seem to be saying because of the standard of on game you saw in ulster that the U21 grade should be scrapped! Do you support the scrapping of the ulster senior championship as the games have been pretty turgid there too. Most people I know think the u21 championship has been very exciting over the last decade and especially so for Cavan. Next year there will be an U20 tournament in its place, nothing much will change except the age of the players so in terms of good games vrs bad games it will make no difference. And I am plenty old enough to remember your few letters into the papers Sean and a few other things you've said on here over the years. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1485 - 16/04/2017 10:32:14 1979797 Link 0 |

Yes to be honest I am pleased to see the back of the U21 championship for it has been on the cards for a very long time. Replacing it with an U20 championship will make no difference like changing the Minors to U17. I stand by everything I have said and I make no bones or apology for saying them. Thankfully I can walk freely without hiding in a shadow for fear of upsetting someone. The crap that has been dished out this year and last year at U21 level leaves a lot to be desired but then again because of the current training system players cannot express themselves. So maybe create a competition at U21 level where player's are allowed to express and play freely and see what happens even at senior level. One thing it may well do is bring life back into our game and the supporters can enjoy a free flowing enjoyable game week on week instead of 13 or 14 behind the ball. It will be interesting to see the Final now and I hope it will be one to remember. Again fredflint I try to avoid replying to your posts but on this occasion I am very happy to do so. Happy Easter. Create a free flowing game we're players can express themselves should not be restricted to just u21 level. Going by that comment the Ulster senior championship should also be dissolved as it's been defensive for the past 10 years & no team has been as defensive as our own lads. The problem is all teams are playing within the current rules & until they are changed it's doesn't matter what age limit the competition is. So your point is irrelevant in respect of the u21 competition. Also if I remember correctly it was either Kieran Reilly (mullahoran) or Kieran Brady (Gowna) who were offered the cavan u21 job in around 2009 that declined the offer because they wanted to train the team seperately & county board & the famous Tommy Carr insisted the squads train together & the u21 manager be a selector with the seniors!!! bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 16/04/2017 12:08:00 1979824 Link 0 |
