Not living in the county it's hard to get news of the U. 21's.
I see we are out against Tyrone in Breffni next Wed 16th @ 8pm. . Should be a good game with two teams who are strong.
Would be lovely to get the win.
Anyone know the panel and have we had many challenge games so far to go on?

I think this will be a very tough game and will take every man playing to his best ability to take the win

We got to Hastings cup final and went down to Westmeath if I remember right. Have we any senior panelists eligible to play ?

Sorry .....we lost Hastings final to Offaly , its all been quiet since that, I expect our style of play will be defensive with Niall Lynch at the helm. Best of Luck to the lads on Wednesday, it would be sweet to scalp Tyrone in first round.

Goodluck to the u21s on Wednesday. Tyrone will obviously be a tough test with a good number from last year team available , Peter Donnelly in the backroom teams so will have a fair knowledge on Cavan.

Hopefully home advanatge will make the differece.

I think Peter Donnelly has left the Tyrone set up.

Result not a surprise.
Like Minors last year, strongest team not on field.

Not a great performance. Still think they should have gone for the win in the Hastings final.
I have heard grumblings from some clubs that their players were never considered. Are there any players that should have been on the panel?
It's surprising that a club like Cavan Gaels that has had such a lot of under age success would only have 1 player on the panel?
Anybody have any views on this?

There was players carrying injuries who didn't start... Cavan kicked 16 wides so the chance was there to win the game. But Tyrone deserved the win, more composed. McShane was excellent at midfield

It was a way too many wides but was surprised when I saw the team. Was Thomas Galligan injured ? He would be a strong midfielder. Also there were a few forwards that dident start like Ben Kiernan, Ryan Connolly and young M.E.Donoghue from Denn which I was surprised at. Caoimhin Reilly must have been a big loss also. I dont know the club scene down there so not sure are all the top lads selected. But hard luck to the lads.
Anyway time to concentrate on our Senior team !!!

Thomas Galligan got injured in the first game of the Hastings Cup against Meath, he had been out since then. TE Donoghue is still Minor. Caoimhin Reilly was injured.

The U21 management were appointed late enough . They used the Hasting Cup to look at over 50 players. Hopefully they will have assembled the panel before the Hastings Cup next year.

Tyrone were more economical in front of goal. They had their wides also. What I liked about this Tyrone team was there ability to use intelligent passes and their patience in their build up. Before their first goal they twice retreated back to the 45 from the 13m line and regrouped and found better options. I liked the pace they broke up the filed after breaking Cavan's attacks down. I am sure Mr Lynch will have learnt from that. By the way Ronan Carolan has been around the scene a long time at U21 level and knows all the players. Michael Hannon and Dermot Sheridan likewise. M Hannon while reporting for the Celt would have seen these lads playing. They had some injuries and as luck would have it to some of the better player's. Please god next year we will have a better run at it. We were playing the current All Ireland champions after all.
I would have thought management had a better chance to see U21 players in action for they played right up to the 22nd of December.
Marieta would you name some of the Cavan Gaels player's you feel should have been in on the panel.

I feel sorry for these lads for some it's their last chance at U21 for they all worked hard, people don't appreciate the effort they have to put in just for one match it has to be hard to pick these lad's back up at club level.

the tyrone no 11 frank burns destroyed us from start to finish, we were very silly not putting a lad on him just to stop him from carrying the ball, in the 2nd half he picked up the ball on his own full back line and carried it 6o metres and not a cavan player went to him , also couldnt understand when we were 6 points down with 5 mins left we won a free from 35 yards out and called the kepper up to take it , that free should of been taken quick and try to work a goal, kepper ended up kicking it wide, when management look back at the video they will see the mistakes they made, and hopefully next year they can push on.

Yes the number 11 Frank Burns was outstanding and I recall the run you are talking about and too thought it was strange not one tackle on him. We live and learn better luck next year. He is along with 4 others on the Tyrone senior panel also.

I said this in a previous discussion regarding the Hastings Cup.
It was a closed shop. No open trials ! Clubs were not asked to forward players for consideration.
Where were the likes of Hendrix from Munter Connaught, McKiernan from Swad, Rehill from Mountnugent, McEnroe from castlerahan etc. Strong lads, excellent footballers
There are lots of other lads who were worth a look at but were not even considered or called for trials.
