Who says they haven't been? Next time you see Mickey in Breffni or at a game, ask him if these lads, and others, have been asked in. Given your comments above, the reply might surprise you.

Replying To LackenQuality79: "There's so many good young players out there that can contribute. How many lads have we on the panel that spend the year injured running up expenses and not actually offering anything on the field? Get rid of them and chance a few youngsters when we're in div 4. Can't sink any lower." Chance a few youngsters? You are aware in the League there we had a huge number of debuts including lads who aren't even 20 yet like Cian Reilly, Sean McEvoy, Caoimhin McGovern and Oisin Reilly. There were also others making their debuts like Patrick Lynch & O'Connell from Ramor. Lads getting a chance was not an issue this year but stick to the narrative that we love in Cavan - let's bin the whole team and management again. Sure they only won Ulster in 2020 and alot of them only have 2 years experience in Division 1.

Agree with you there was a lot of new players blooded and it was one of the big positives to take from 2021. All them lads will be better for it next year. My point was we can do more of this again next year with a lot of the talent around the county that haven't been asked or may reconsider if asked again. We've enough lads who have contributed very little on the field but been on the panel a long time. My point is to get rid of them, especially the injury prone ones and take a chance on some more youngsters. I think being in div 4 will give us a good chance to get more of these lads blooded in.
Have you seen anyone across the championship so far that has impressed you that would be worth a call up?

So why would we need someone like Ricey who knows absolutely nothing about club football in Cavan to unearth that talent for us? Surely there must be plenty of local managers/selectors who have a better insight into club football within the county to step in.

Ricey has a minimum of 4 senior quarter finals, 2 semi finals and a final to see what's available. I'm sure he'll get in some good quality intermediate and junior games too. He is a fresh pair of eyes with no loyalties so he's a welcomed addition.

If he's as good as you say he is why didn't Rory Gallagher bring him to Derry with him when he left Fermanagh. And he didn't unearth much in Fermanagh when he was Manager. Stay local I say. We can't stoop much lower than div 4. It's time we started using our own coaches/ managers who know the club scene . Ricey is not a plus .

It beggars belief how County boards continue to fall into the trap of getting people on board who have absolutely no interest in the long term future of their county team… Does anyone really think that Ricey has any real interest in Cavan football…??

Shor draw up a short list of local candidates that would be up to the job. Maybe not too many??

Not quite at the 90% last week but certainly building towards it.
Intermediate is quite tough to call. I have gone for the deeper panel to beat the teams with arguably better individuals in the top 4 games there, the percentage call. The opposite in the Bridge Bboro game, where I have gambled on the better firepower.
Junior and Senior I am very confident with 8 of 9 selections, with the one fear being Killygarry, where there is the potential for them to just regard this match as a warm up for the relegation play off, and if so, may not necessarily be relied upon to lose by a point again.

Gallagher took the top job in Derry and Ricey stayed put and got the top job in Fermanagh. There's plenty of logic why Ricey didn't follow him. I'm not some Ricey preacher but a neutral point of view and a bit of ruthlessness with regards to culling some of old guard/ injury brigade to replace them with some fresh talent around the county could pay dividends.
Someone on here suggested bringing in some local management/ coaches/ selectors. Does anyone have someone in mind? I can only really speak for my own club and I know Mickey O'Rourke is very popular and knowing him I'm sure he'd be interested in getting involved.

Not much going on in the senior this weekend. Ballinagh and Crosserlough the only teams with anything to play for. Both should win and get a QF spot.

Crosserlough cannot get through without a Castlerahan win or draw. As far as I can see a Castlerahan win would effectively turn Killygarry v Lacken into a relegation playoff as 9th is safe. But interestingly if Ballinagh win, then the winner will likely face Castlerahan in a relegation playoff. There are all sorts of permutations at the bottom meaning some teams may prefer to loose than win depending on other results. As bad as Castlerahan have been I would imagine teams would prefer to avoid them in a playoff.
I think all intermediate games are streamed bar the Killinkere Cuchullainns derby which is a shame, I would like to have seen that one and cannot attend. I would fancy Bailieborough to beat the bridge, and wins for Ballyhaise, Cornafean and Cuchullainns
