He did predict Drung to beat Magera though.

Feel for Maghera. They keep going despite their obvious shortcomings. They aren't helped by a lot of lads from maghera that pretend to be from Virginia.

Sorry lads, the form book seems to have been thrown out the window after the (non) league this year.

The extremely high standard of tipping in previous years is not being maintained, and for that reason tips are officially called to halt until the knockout stages for me to try to take stock.

The only dependable line of form at the moment appears to be Killygarry losing by a point.

Maghera to be bet by about 30 points seems pretty dependable too

Few tight games over the weekend, nobody looking like obvious winners yet. Gowna handed out a tanking to a struggling Lacken team who are maybe not senior material any more? Mullahoran done well against a very poor Castlerahan side, possibly on the slide too? Ballinagh grabbed a good draw against Ramor, if they get a decent draw next that point could be very valuable. Kingscourt chipping away quietly. Could be Ramor's year.

What's actually going on with Maghera though? When was the last time they won a game? Any game, not just championship? They're so far off the rest of the Junior teams that they skew the championship on score difference on whoever meets them. I fully know their long and proud history, but something needs to be done here as it can't be good for anyone. Is it worth dropping down to reserve grade for a time (other small clubs in other counties do this). Do they look to join up with their parish-mates Ramor? Talk to the CB in that if they drop down, win a few games, and they can come back up in a few years or something with a bit of confidence and momentum. This right now looks terminal, and the constant thrashings at this level can't be helping. Is it pushing away prospective players? Is there anything coming through at any age group?

i agree that they shouldn't be in the Junior championship while its in it's current structure as its a guaranteed 2 points and +20 score difference for the 4 teams who play them. But they are that poor, they wouldn't even be guaranteed a result at reserve level, unless is was possibly against the Junior teams reserves

They did actually field in the reserve championship a few years ago.

Can't remember how they got on.

Yes, I would say (with a few exceptions) Senior C'ship clubs B teams are only about 4/5 points worse than the majority of the Junior A teams that are hammering Maghera by 25 points.

In Division 4, I think they still get beat by 15-19 nearly every game.

There are a number of lads who are from maghera (and even beyond) but choose to play for ramor

Indeed, or the castlerahan lads who pretend to be from ballyduff. The games gone like soccer

And they are right to do so. They live in the parish of Lurgan so can play for any club based in lurgan

In Paul Fitzpatrick's report on Maghera v Drung from last weekend, he says it's over 10 years since they won a game (don't know if that's counting both league and championship). It's sad to see. At the same time I wonder, just out of sheer curiosoty, if there's another club somewhere on this island that's still fielding teams and with a longer losing streak?

Virginia Blues had to change their name and club colors in the 1970's to a neutral name (lake name) to appease the Maghera contingent who wouldn't play under the Virginia name or colors.

A united parish team with Lurgan, Virginia Blues and Maghera was formed under the banner of Ramor United with orange\black colors. At the twelfth hour at a county board meeting in the court house in virginia a couple of Maghera diehards decided to pull the plug on the parish football team unification and continue Maghera regardless.

That's why to this day Maghera struggles with numbers, Maghera families play with Ramor because this is the parish team and that's the right thing to do. The Lurgan end of the parish accepted the change to Ramor, the Virginia part of the parish accepted a name change and their famous jersey colour change at the bequest of Maghera but when all was agreed a couple of Maghera diehards went back on the agreement.

So when was the last time Maghera won a game? Who did they beat and what was the score?

There was a club in louth won its first championship game since I think the 90s, last weekend. Story was on the main page on here.
