Paul Geaney struck two late goals as Dingle triumphed over Austin Stacks to their first Kerry senior football championship title since 1948.

It finished 2-13 to 1-12 at Austin Stack Park in Tralee, where Stacks saw their late push, which included a 55th minute penalty from Cian Purcell, killed off once Kerry ace Geaney rattled their net three minutes later.

The Tralee side had built up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead inside the opening 20 minutes, with scores from Paul Geaney and Conor Geaney helping to trim the Dingle deficit to four come half-time (0-8 to 0-4).

The two aforementioned Geaneys and Tadhg deBrún sailed over scores after the restart to make it a one-point game and they’d eventually hit the front when Paul Geaney smashed in their first goal in the 52nd minute.

A Dylan Geaney two-pointer would be backed by Tom O’Sullivan’s point to make it 1-13 to 0-11 in favour of the men from the peninsula ahead of Purcell crashing in a penalty at other end.

Stacks kept the heat on but it’d be Dingle that struck the next hammer blow via their captain Geaney who netted his second goal to put a seal the sweet success for his club.
