Recently-reappointed Cork football manager John Cleary has received a boost ahead of the 2026 season with the news that Steven Sherlock is returning to the fold.

An All-Star nominee in 2022, Sherlock opted out last season and hasn’t featured for the Rebels since the 2024 Allianz League. However, after top-scoring in the group stages of the Cork PSFC with an impressive 2-26 and kicking a sensational two-point sideline that Maurice Fitzgerald would have been proud of in St Finbarr’s 2-23 to 0-10 victory over Carrigaline at the weekend, he confirmed his inter-county return.

“Yeah, I’ll be back in 2026, so I’m looking forward to that,” the sharpshooter told The Echo.

“First things first is the club. My ambition for the whole year was to concentrate on that, and that’s the aim for the next few weeks before going back into the county scene.”

Next up for the ‘Barr’s is a county quarter-final against holders Castlehaven.
