There was plenty of late drama at Celtic Park this afternoon as Kerry snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the dying stages against Derry.
After Shane McGuigan had looked to done enough for the Oak Leafers to bounce back from last weekend’s opening defeat to Tyrone, back-to-back goals from Donal O’Sullivan and Paul Geaney in the closing 90 seconds saw the Munster champions take both points on a 5-15 to 1-23 scoreline.
Despite a brace of Conor Geaney goals in the opening 25 minutes, the hosts trailed by 0-13 to 2-5 at half-time ahead of Paul Cassidy and Conor Glass (‘45’) extending the Derry lead with a couple of points early in the resumption.

Kerry hung in and eventually levelled things up with Donal O’Sullivan’s point in the 61st minute, but disaster would strike when McGuigan got released through and found the corner of their net in the very next attack.
A Paul Geaney goal three minutes later was the perfect response from the Kingdom but McGuigan sent over a sublime point with two minutes to go to leave them on the back foot again.
A remarkable finish to this cracking second round encounter saw O’Sullivan getting in for a fourth Kerry goal before they’d walk in another seconds later, with Paul Geaney providing the finish from close range to mark a winning start to his team’s Division 1 campaign.
