Galway forward Jason Flynn has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The Tommy Larkins clubman, who turns 31 next month, was part of the Tribesmen’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship success in 2017 when they defeated Waterford to claim the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

He was also a member of Galway’s 2011 All-Ireland minor winning side, making his senior inter-county debut three years later and being nominated for Young Hurler of the Year in 2015.

The 2017 All-Ireland SHC final saw Flynn coming off the bench to score two points as Micheál Donoghue’s side defeated the Deise men by 0-26 to 2-17 to land the ultimate prize in hurling for their county for the first time in 27 years.

A two-time Leinster SHC and National League winner as well, Flynn signed off on his inter-county career with the following statement yesterday:

“It’s been a dream come true to wear the maroon and white for Galway over the past 12 years.

“In 2017, a young boy’s dream became a reality. I have memories I will treasure forever.

“A huge thanks to my fiancee Roisin,, my family, and friends for all the support along the way.

“I’ve been lucky to share a dressing room with incredible players and work with great people and management teams over the years.

“To my club Tommy Larkins, thank you for your constant support.

“I look forward to many years in the red and black.”
