Wicklow and Donegal earned promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz Hurling League thanks to respective final round victories this afternoon.
Wicklow were emphatic in a 3-27 to 0-11 win over Louth in Aughrim, where they ran up a 1-10 to 0-2 lead after the opening quarter of an hour with the help Fionn Darcy’s early goal.
More majors would come via Eoin McCormack and Darcy for Garden men as they cruised to a 25-point victory to finish top of the Division 3 table.
Jonathan ‘Bosco’ O’Neill’s charges will be joined in next weekend’s league final by Donegal after the Tir Chonaill men made their goals count against fellow promotion chasers Roscommon.
It finished 3-20 to 0-19 at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park, where Josh Cronnolly McGee and Richie Ryan (2) grabbed the goals in the first-half for the visitors as they took in a 3-10 to 0-12 advantage at the break.
Liam McKinney sent over Donegal’s first three points of the resumption from frees and, while Paddy Fallon kept the Rossies in with an outside chance, the scores of Declan Coulter and Dan Donnelly would help round off the Ulster side’s 10-point victory.
Elsewhere, already relegated Armagh and Fermanagh played out a 0-21 to 1-18 draw at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds in their final league outing of the season.
At Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, Sligo defeated Longford by 4-25 to 3-11 in what was the dress rehearsal for the Division 4 final.
With both sides already having secured promotion to Division 3, it was the Yeats men that ensured they’d be going into next weekend's decider with a 100% record as they overcame a shaky start with the help of a hat-trick from talisman Andrew Kilcullen to win comfortably in the end.
The derby clash between Cavan and Monaghan at Kingspan Breffni saw Ollie Bellew’s men chalk up their third win of the campaign (1-16 to 0-15) with the help of a 20th minute Mark Moffett goal, while the all-Exile clash between Warwickshire and Lancashire at Páirc na hÉireann saw the former coming out on top on a 1-17 to 2-12 scoreline.
