Ladies Championship Finals

(Oldest Posts First)

Hi all, this is just a message in case anyone would like to know, the finals of the Ladies Junior, Intermediate and Senior Championships are taking place in Athlone next Saturday, starting at 3:30pm. Apparently Cusack Park is unavailable, even though this date has been set since January. So please if you are at nothing, go along to support the 6 times that are taking part in the most important day of their year, because apparently is not very important to the County Board.

I wouldn't be involved with any ladies football club but I think its very poor form that the finals aren't beong played in cusack park. The ladies football team is one of the only teams that done the county proud this year. There is senior hurling championship games fixed for cusack sat eve. These games could have been easily moved to lomans.

County Board need to make money. That is the main reason the hurling games won't be moved out of Cusack

The date has been set since the beginning of the year and a written request was sent in back in February for it. The Ladies County Board were told at the weekend that one game could happen on the 30th at 2pm, which would be impossible at this stage for people to get off work.It also would totally belittle the other two grades who didn't get to play there.

I think the ladies deserve their day in Cusack park, once a year is not a big ask. The Westmeath county board should be ashamed of themselves for not allowing this. If Cusack was unavailable for the date planned surly another date could have been agreed. As someone mentioned above the ladies have being flying the flag proudly for the county the last number of years.

I see now that Cusack Park is hosting 2 Ladies All-Ireland semi's this Sat, same day as the Westmeath ladies club finals ?

Cusack Park Mullingar hosts the first of this years All Ireland Ladies Football Semi finals with a double header set for the venue on Saturday 30th August. In the first match, Down play Leitrim in the Intermediate semi final which has a 1.30pm throw in time while the feature game is Dublin V Galway in the Senior Semi final. This game has a 3.15pm throw in time.

The county board get a % of the gate from ladies AI semi.
Maybe that is the reason

what an absolute disgrace that the top teams in the womens competitions do not get their day in Cusack Park! I read a very good letter to the Editor in this weeks examiner and the lady mentions that it is the one day that they asked for all year? Surely this cpould of been agreed at the beginning of the year if the date was set?!
Also, even if they do get a % of the gate for the All Irelands, there is no way it would of been more than the full amount they would of received by having 3 club games on there. They cannot justify their decision of not having the games there now when they then announced two yesterday! I am a long time supporter of Westmeath GAA and have, for the last number of years, bought a supporters draw ticket. Next year will be a different story.

Are ye really that surprised lads (and ladies), I'm not.The more fixtures I see and instances like this make me wonder if the people on these fixtures committee's played hurling or football at all. There's a hurling game @ 5pm in the park on Saturday, any lad that's working will have to get time off work to go and play, and will the pitch be cut up much after two ladies games and two hurling games? it's not baffling anymore lads.
