While teams struggle to get sides together for league it is a necessary evil I think.
Having a few games to get things organised and properly understand inetrest lets team get in to something resembling decent shape for championship. Realistically only a handful of teams across three grades have big numbers out training yet.
It was said to me yesterday by one of those involved that should not forget that at home there is anywhere from 2 to 5 months of challenge matches, league and various pre-season competitions at club level, with teams fielding all sorts of sides, which I thought was fair point.
to expect teams to be able to turn up for first round of chmapionship organised and ready without a fixture would be unfair i think. It is done in the hurling here only because of club numbers and small total home base.

Bleedtheball, where is the negativity. All were asking is for some updates on NY team. Create maybe some interest. Points about yesterday's games are true.

I heard training hasn't been going so well as of late. Cavan played them in a challenge on Tuesday night and many of the NY starters were cleaned out

3 senior games up this Sunday with some interesting match ups. There is a repeat of last years final at 230 with Leitrim V Kerry. There is no love lost between these 2 so a hard hitting encounter will be expected. I hope the board puts a proper ref for this one. Ill take Leitrim to over come Kerry by 4. Donegal will beat Armagh by about 10 I'd say while Cork should handle Tyrone easy. Ill take 15 points in this one

Who does Leitrim have to really bother Kerry? Carew is a good player sure but woods is injured and who else is in the forwards?

Leitrim have a sanction in town. A Down senior. There is no Kerry back that can mark him

that could be bad news for kerry in the 13aside. leitrim making loads on in roads into ulster with the monaghan lads 2 years ago, the armagh contingent last year and now this down fella,

leitrim bringing in sanctions already, seems like a statement of intent for the year

NY senior championship should be very entertaining this year. Dublin have folded. Armagh will be the weakest team and then there is not much between the rest.

Last post here was in 2013 but heard a major meeting was held last night to discuss future of NY Gaa. Can we get some facts from meeting. Heard big taking point was a proposed return of weekenders. Will this help or hurt?

I didn't hear about a meeting but weekenders need to be brought back to the park. It creates a bit of a buzz around the place.
