NY Team vs Galway

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Congrats on the performance on Sunday. saw the highlights on TG4. gave a great account of themselves. As good as as most average county teams. A credit to the management and the players. What was different this year? the new york panel must have a significant disadvantage without playing in the league or opportunity to get in many competitive county standard challenge games. How many of a panel is there? when do the team start their preparations for the championship? If the same committment and effort continues then who knows what may happen down the line with more and more players emigrating. If you had of been playing Leitrim or Roscommon then you never know what may have happened on Sunday. Galway are a top 5 team in the country and New York gave them an almighty scare..so well done again and keep up the good work..its a pity there is no back door for NY!!

greenhead...Galway a top 5 team in the country? I wouldn't think they're in the top 15....Connacht is a brutal province with no competition and Galway and Mayo have gone backwards in the past few years....I'd put most of Leinster and Ulster (barring the obvious like Fermanagh, Longford & Kilkenny) along with Cork and Kerry ahead of Galway. New York got some wind in their sails and made a bit of go of it as can any bad team on the day...despite that, they were beaten well....the shame of it is that this annual farce will continue because of this "respectable beating"....

How very positive of you shinkicker. Whatever your opinion on Galway you can't deny they are in the quarterfinal of the all Ireland on an annual basis. And new York should have put them away only for the sendings off. There is alot to build on there for next years game and plenty motivation for the players. The game was alot more than a "respectful beating" credit where credits due. The next thing will be to win a championship game. If things continue the way they are here in Ireland then alot more quality players will head across the pond.

Was there any American born players on the field Sunday?

This game is a farce. It should be stopped until such time as New York can field a team with of mostly American-born players and ones with passports to travel for that matter.

I mean: the GAA have no contingency for New York actually winning a game. If they did it would disturb the entire All-Ireland.

Listen lets stop fooling ourselves. We all know that Galway traveled with less than half a team. Exams and injuries decimated their lineup. The goalkeeper was not the first or second choice but the 3rd string keeper. NY did well for what they have but their gameplan of being overly physical was never gonna work with an Irish referee. In NY football, illegal tackles are commonplace but not with a real GAA ref. The two NY midfielders both should have been gone before halftime. Crazy challenges, no intent to play any ball. The management should have taken Madden off after his third warning! Murtagh the same, subs should have replaced these men for repeated over zealous challenges. Playing with 13 men should never have been let happen, it cost NY the game. The management should be given a second chance as they are new and may learn from these rookie mistakes but I wouldn't give them too long. It did help them that they drafted in those new players at the last minute. Next year they could have even better talent if the Irish economy stays in the tank.
