U20s

(Oldest Posts First)

Any details or coverage on the u20s progress to date - key players, prospects etc. Looks like most of the upcoming games are mid-week so it's hard to get to see them.

Lost two games to date in this new League thing. Perhaps starting training in November wasn't enough and they should have started last June, good solid 12 months to the championship.

You'll not see any match reports as the Banty doesn't allow them. Likes to keep things tight.

Jeepers - Its very low-key. Barely a whimper on it on any County Forum. The old u21 grade always generated a spike interest in February/March as to who the new kids on the block were knocking on the door of the senior panel.

Andrew Woods looks a decent prospect.

Was at the last 2 under 20 games in inniskeen, monaghan v down was a really really good first half by both teams , monaghan 3 down at ht, chased it a bit in the 2 nd half and could nt quite claw it back
Last night was the squad players getting a run , Meath too strong but the big thing I took from both games was monaghan lack of a kick out strategy, the keeper only seems to have one kick , long and high down the middle , even when a short kick out is on , he refused ( or could nt give it ) which is in stark contrast to Meath and down , similar to last year in the u17 s under the management
(would appear to be under instruction)
How does a county team not have a decent kick out plan ?

Heading to see Under 20s in Breffni on Sunday against Cavan. In Eniskillen last Friday evening for inspiring win over Donegal & hoping for more of the same. Like most I know nothing about this team as a result of Banty's secret preparations. . Does it contain many of last year's minors ?.......anyone remember team line outs from previous matches ?

Give us a clue please !

The last game v Meath was a shadow team (i think)

Ryan Farrelly Magheracloone
Ronan Grimes Killanny
Fionn O'Callaghan Corduff
Conor Doyle Clontibret
Brendan Og Duffy Monaghan Harps
Seamus Kindlon Inniskeen
Jack Gormley Clontibret
Ryan Mohan Truagh
Oisin Gleesson Aghabog
David Hanley Cremartin
Ryan McNulty Magheracloone
Barry Kieran Magheracloone
Eddie Walsh Killanny
Tiarnan Duffy Aughnamullen
Oran McElligott Truagh

Other's listed as squad members that day were

Aaron Mohan Truagh
Andrew Woods Inniskeen
Josh Walsh Castleblayney
Liam Og Murray Magheracloone
Sean Jones Inniskeen
Robbie McAllister Emyvale
Karl McMenamen Carrickmacross
Jordan McGarrell Corduff
Ryan O'Toole Scotstown
Mark Mooney Tyholland
Dean Connolly Killanny

I'd expect Woods, Murray, O'Toole, McAllister, Connolly, Jones and McMenamin all to be starters v Cavan. The squad has 5 of last years minors.

Mulligan chose not to be involved this year. He had exams in June and he'll have his fill of football in the next few years.

Very poor show by the u20s. No point scored with the wind in the second half says it all. There was a single gameplan- lump it in to young Woods all day. The lad did well with the ball he got but it was made easy for Cavans defence. Bereft of ideas on the sideline

4 points with that level of talent is shocking , players trying to do too much , so slow to use the subs , Cavan subbed the midfielder off after 10 mins , rutless!!!

I feel sorry for them players today. A lot of very talented players on show. O'Toole, Murray, Connolly, McAllister and Woods to name a few.

Management have a lot to answer for.

I would hope that set up is nowhere near the top job next year.

Couldn't agree more. That game was lost on the line ( 2 teams evenly matched) with sole game plan of lumping it into our one man full forward line, Woods, who was outnumbered 3 -1 by Cavan defenders at all times.
When we ran at Cavan's defence at pace we got 2 goals but time & time again cave man tactics from Banty cost us. Hope he is nowhere near this age group for next 2 years when we have a great chance to shine with our talented minors coming through.
Woods at ff & Dean Connolly at mf yesterday are very fine footballers and should start for seniors in league next year. No one else stood out for me yesterday but then again they didn't have a platform to shine !

Training from last October, nil game's won apart from the odd challenge, a poor return from a lot of investment, and no Mulligan who dug them out of many situations last year! Can't remember when last a Monaghan team were shut out for a season?
