Senior Championship 2017

Whos the team to beat in the championship this year? Will any team be able to beat scotstown?

Was at Donaghmoyne Truagh last night and both teams look like bottom half teams. Some good football played but miles away from scotstown, clontibret, ballybay etc.

Scotstown are the team to beat, such a huge resource of players plus quite a few lads playing county football. Ballybay probably the most likely to stop them, the manager Donnelly seems to be getting all the support and backing he wants for the team.

Scotstown should be winning it, but Ballybay will be very close to them. Possibly should have beaten Scotstown last year only they didn't show up in the second half. It will be interesting to see if Latton can carry this League form into the Championship.

Unless Ballybay stop wasting Drew Wylie at full back, Ballybay will win nothing. You'd never see Scotstown play either of the Hughes' at full back.

Did I not see Kieran Hughes going back to mark Mansy in a county final few years back???

The reason neither the Hughes brothers play Full Back is because its not their natural position, whereas Drew Wylie is one of the best Full Backs in the country. Why wouldn't they play him there?

Because Drew Wylie isn't one if the best Full Backs in the country, he's one of the best footballers in the country. And he's been stuck in Full Back now for years which is short changing club and county. He should be midfield for both.

That's your opinion. He's far better defensively than he is going forward. Ballybay have enough good options for midfield, not so much for the Full Back spot, which is arguably one of, if not THE most crucial positions on the pitch, lucky for them they've one of the best in the country at that position. Drew being played at Full Back is definitely not the reason that they haven't won more Championships.

As for county, I just don't see why they would play him in midfield, considering he's barely ever, if ever, played there. Who goes Full Back if Drew isn't there?

Of course its my opinion! What did you think it was?
If he has barely or ever played in midfield how are we supposed to know how good he would be going forward? He was put in the middle a couple of years ago against Latton when Ballybay were losing and turned the game by doing what he does at full back only as he was at midfield he had a more direct effect on the whole game. (This is because midfield is more crucial than full back) Whenever Ballybay are struggling, they throw him into midfield. So why not start him there?
If you asked Scotstown or Clontibret or any of the other teams who can win the Championship (that's none by the way) they want Drew playing at full back for Ballybay.
Kieran Hughes beat Ballybay in last years semi final by scoring 3 or 4 shots from out the field and Drew wasn't much use to Ballybay at full back as those balls sailed over his head. So I'd have disagree that him being at full back wasn't a reason.
As to your question about his replacement at county level: Vinny.
PS Check out Drew's twitter name, it's not @Wylied3

Why would Scotstown want Drew Wylie at Full Back? Darren Hughes has been unstoppable the last two years at Full Forward, if Drew isn't marking him, who will? For that reason it would suit them if Drew was around the middle of the field.
Do you honestly think Drew was going to stop Kieran Hughes from scoring them? And even if he did, it would have meant that Darren Hughes would have ran riot at Full Forward if anyone else was marking him.
Vinny as his replacement? Vinny was, and still is a great player, but hasn't the pace to play Full Back anymore. Perhaps there's a reason that Drew hasn't been tried at midfield in the Championship? Maybe they've seen that he's not suited to it at county level in training or behind closed doors games?
His Twitter name?! I'm sure that's the first thing Malachy O'Rourke is looking at when deciding where to play Drew Wylie! Can't believe you've brought that up. Ryan McAnespie's Twitter is @RyanMcAnespie1, that must mean he's a goalkeeper surely!

You've got a "perhaps" followed by a "maybe". The cornerstones for well thought out points.
As to your glib response to Drew's twitter name. It is an indication of where he sees himself. Conor McManus, Ryan Wylie, Paul Finlay, Niall McNamee, Stevie McDonnell, Ronan O'Gara and countless other sportspeople use their jersey number in their name on Twitter.
