Dermot Earley's greatest game

(Oldest Posts First)

Like the title says

Any opinions? I'd narrow it down to three

v. The Dubs (Leinster final 2002 - complete one-man show)
v. Tyrone (QF 2009 - they just stopped competing with him after a while)
v. Wickla (Qualifiers 2009 - I think he put one over from Newbridge that day)

Would agree with the Wicklow game in 2009, absolutely immense.

Kerry in '98 on Daragh O'Se coming in for nuxer.

And not many travelled down for it and I'm not sure there was even a camera present but Limerick in the qualifiers in 2008, titanic battle with John Galvin, both in their prime with Earley coming out on top and there's not many who can say that. Caught the ball on the line in last play of the game. Pure class.

If Earley had have avoided injury and been given a chance to replicate his 2009 form I believe we would have won an All Ireland in 2010.

Daryl Flynn got injured early in the Down game and we ended up with a midfield pairing of Sweeney and Lynch for the rest of the game and still only lost by 2. Earley was a far superior midfielder than Sweeney ever was and it possibly could have made the difference in that match. I wouldn't dismiss the importance of his absence too lightly.

Jeez, I wouldn't get too caught up in the "what if's" of the whole thing lads. If Paddy Cunningham kicked his free in last minute of normal time in Newbridge we wouldn't even have got back to Croker in 2010 and Dermot Earley's fitness wouldn't have been an issue then. It ends how it ends and that's it.

Thats the game where Johnny kicked the ball over form the sideline a la Maurice Fitz? Thought I remember seeing that point afterwards on T.V. so must have been some camera at it.

Dermots greatest game depends on how you look at it. He played some outstanding matches for us and it would be unfair to pick out one from a football point of view. But for shear bravery and something that comes from deep within it has to be the Antrim game in newbridge. I've never felt a feeling like the one that I had when the national anthem was over. It was something truly amazing. For dermot to do what he did that day considering what he had just gone through will never ever be toped.

Dermot you are and always will be a Kildare legend and I tip my hat to you sir.

I was at that game in newbridge fellas and there was something very special about the whole occasion, and that was due to big Dermot, an absolute legend.

The man is an absolute legend he has came back from cancer, knee injuries and played the day of his dads funeral, He is an absolute inspiration, the way he conducts himself on and off the field is amazing and should be looked at by any young lad..On his greatest game, the one against Limerick springs to mind in McGeeney's first year..

The greatest game i seen dermot play was when he scooped the ball off the line in a county semi final against moorefield in 2008. Should off been a peno but that's life moorefield dermot was a god that day.

I dont think dermot would have gotten all the praise he is getting if it wasnt for the hard work that killian brennan put in beside him.. Brennan layed the foundations and dermot built the house
