Mortimer dig at U21s

(Oldest Posts First)

Anyone see Conor Mortimer have a dig at Sean Hurley and Tommy Moolick? It's all on Twitter, they bit back, as did a few supporters. Bad form from CM in my opinion.

Who cares what he thinks? If he was an ice-cream he'd lick himself.

The famous Mortimer family statement last year said "Football was his life and he was never found wanting. He always made himself available to the media, but now all he wants is his privacy and integrity protected."

Now nobody is paying any attention to him it seems all he wants is squeeze back into the spotlight whatever way he can. Conor Mortimer will never play inter-county football again. The least he can do is get out of the way of the lads who do.

All he said was Kildare were kicking too many wides. A man who had never seen a game of GAA before would have said the same thing. He only had a "go" at people when a couple of fools abused him. People need a thicker skin.

His implication was clear that he would do better himself since he was going on about how easy it is. He would do well to remember that in the All-Ireland minor semi-final in 2000 he pulled a ball out of a team-mates hands in the last minute and then kicked his shot wide. Mayo went on to win the replay before losing the final but I can only imagine what he would've felt if he had to endure reading a more senior player criticising him on twitter on his way back to Mayo after that first game had it been around at the time. Unfortunately such perspective seems to be beyond him even with his masters on his wall.

A Mayo man laughing at another county for kicking wides? Ahh the irony!

It worries me that the players themselves responded to this criticism. I feel that our players have the talent but the temprement is not there. Mortimer was commenting the game and is entitled to his opinion.

He was far off the mark either. Our lads need to let the their football do the talking.

Agree with doublehop, Mortimer is yesterday's news. You never see great former players coming out with stuff like that. The lads probably shouldn't have responded to it, as the worst thing you can do with someone like him is to make him think that people are actually listening

Yeah some of our supporters need to lighten up and except criticism when its warranted, not everybody has it in for Kildare, yes there was a certain bit of jealousy from the Micko tenure that still festers in some but most criticism can be justified, we lost the League semi final and the u21 semi through poor shooting nobody can deny that fact it was there for all to see, I was tearing my hair out watching that match on Saturday as I'm sure you all were?.

There was plenty of positives to take from the Tyrone game but if we keep on squandering good possession from poor shooting it will invariably come back to haunt us, a marked improvement required in that department if we are to maintain a sustained Championship presence.

I think it was as much who was saying it as what he was saying that irked people. A guy who walked away from his county the week of a provincial final now pretending to be a gym manager in Parnell's. There's people you'll take it from and people who should know better.

There was no need for him to be rubbing it into Moolick and Hurley. Moolick was only thanking the many who had travelled for their support. Totally unnecessary to be having a go in that context

Man with no relevance to Kildare GAA passes comment on Kildare GAA.

Nothing more than a poor mans Woolberto.
