League And Championship Predictions

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Drumaness 3-16 Glasdrumman 0-0 last night in the IFC. Does anyone recall a team going scoreless in recent times in a championship game? Not good to see and must have been an awful night for those players who are doing their best to keep the club going through a tough season.

Maybe the JFC should be restructured to include more of the lower division 3 teams based on league standings in June/July? Teconnaught also took a heavy defeat to St Johns.

Clonduff won as expected and may put together a decent challenge this year for the SFC based on their good league form. Though it's hard to look past Kilcoo.

Big win for Darragh Cross too against Drumgath, will they make a challenge this year for the IFC?

Mayobridge likely to take a heavy defeat to Burren this weekend as they focus on staying in division 1.

Kilcoo should win comfortably against the Kingdom, Loughinisland to beat Longstone and Carryduff to upset Castlewellan.

Bredagh will give Bryansford a good rattle but may not have enough to get the result.

There's a very simple solution Division 1 & last year IFC winner in Senior Championship, Division 2 & last year JFC winner in IFC, Division 3 in JFC and have Division 4 Junior B Championship

In Hurling have Senior, Junior and Junior B, do away with Intermediate, play senior winner in Ulster Intermediate and Junior winner Ulster Junior. Armagh and Donegal do something similar

SHC - The Crans will be hard to beat, with Ports and Galgets missing a few lads. Unfortunate for Liatriom not to he at full strength, they'd have gave it a good rattle

IHC - If Bredagh can get everyone firing they will be hard to beat. With Clomduff missing a few boys they will surely be out of reach this year

JHC - Newry/Warrenpoint/Ballela. Newry have been close the past 3 years and surely will want a big win this year. CPN will have a lot of momentum coming in off winning the league. Ballela are always there or close, is Jonny McCusker injured, is Mal Magee away?,If so they'll really struggle. Get these boys back, Ballela will snatch it

Can't comment on football but hurling wide of the mark - Down clubs competitive at senior crans beat Slaughtneil last year . Below that you are probably right the rest are Ulster junior standard.

Predictions for Saturday at Leitrim then?

1pm Warrenpoint vs Castlewellan - Surely this is a cert for Warrenpoint as Castlewellan have had a weakened team all year - point by 15+

3pm Ballela vs Newry - Hard one to call with both teams up for a tough game I'd imagine, the winner here will be decided if they have their key players fit and ready - Ballela by 3 (if they have their key players)

Great win for Mayobridge over Burren, and now what should be a good game against Loughinisland in the next round.

Carryduff to beat Bredagh in their derby.

Clonduff v Warrenpoint should be a good game, with Clonduff to edge it.

Kilcoo to beat Rostrevor easily.

I can see wins for Bryansford (though RGU should run them close), Burren, Longstone and Ballyholland in the loser's round.

Annaclone to beat St Johns, Glenn to beat Saul, Darragh to hammer Drumaness and Shamrocks to beat Ballymartin in the IFC winners, with Liatroim, Banbridge and Drumgath to win the loser's round.

Teconnaught got a bye but will be hammered in the next game whoever they face.

Think you've got this bang on. C'Wellan have been off the mark this yea throughout the league with a few heavy defeats. Can see that game being rough and a few cards maybe shown on both sides for sure. Warrenpoint +15/20

As for Newry vs Ballela, it'll be a contest. If Ballela can shut out Sheehan they'll walk the game. Newry will have their hands full with ballela forwards as they've always had pace and will score free's all day. Ballela +3

Ballela Shamrocks could go either way. Wpoint strong favourites but have feeling it will be closer than the 20 point League hammerings

I think I'll head over on Saturday an take in the double header at Liatroim on the way to Dublin.

Warrenpoint v Castlewellan - Haven't seen either team this year but I'd have to go for the Point based on league form.

Ballela v Newry - This will be a cracker. Ballela are hard nuts with a couple of classy hurlers like Magee and the McCuskers. but the Shamrocks have improved this year and no longer rely on Sheehan for all of ther scores. I expect the Newry boys to win a tight contest. Possibly after extra time.

Next Saturday set to be a good day with all 3 divisions of the hurling championship being played.

Junior

Ballela vs Ballyvarley - think this should be handy for the boys in green as they've beaten Ballyvarley on numerous occasions this year, this will set them up with Warrenpoint I'd imagine in the next round, Ballela +12

Castlewellan vs Kilclief - haven't seen either team play this year, however I would imagine Kilclief should walk the game, Kilclief +8

Intermediate

Bredagh vs Carryduff
- this should be a great game, I'll be heading to watch this and then onto the senior afterwards, I see Carryduff just getting the better of Bredagh after the most recent Antrim league win, Carryduff +2

Senior - (is this a round robin?)

Liatroim vs Ballygalet - I would love to see Liatroim do the business here, but with them not being at full strength I can't see it, Ballygalget +5

Portaferry vs Ballycran - Another close contest here from the ards, I can see Ballycran walking out victorious after the 70mins, Ballycran +6

Junior

Ballela vs Ballyvarley - depends who line out fro Ballela. If it is the same team as last sunday against Shamrocks, they will win by +10 but if they have the 2 main lads back it will +20

Castlewellan vs Kilclief - has to be Kilclief based on results to date +15

Intermediate

Bredagh vs Carryduff - to hard to call

Senior - (is this a round robin?) - Yes I understand it is.

Liatroim vs Ballygalet - If this was last year I would say it might be competitive e.g. within 5 - 10 points but due to injuries and lack of momentum this year for Liatroim, I would be suprised if it is less than +20 win for Ballygalget.

Portaferry vs Ballycran - Could go either way.

Sad to hear that Liatroim aren't going to be full strength for whatever reasons as they'll need to be to give it a real go .

Can happen to any club I suppose.

Hear the surface in Carryduff isn't great and whilst there's a lot of annoyance in the Ards about the three clubs being dragged about the place which will impact on attendance I can't see where everyone is going to park especially with Mass going on at the same time.

I think we'll give the Ports their fill of it and come away with a 3 point win but we'll need at least 2 goals which is very possible.

If I wasn't involved a wee pint and burger in the Ivanhoe would be the business and then walk up to the game.

If you're moving the games from the Ards why not go to Downpatrick would that not make sense or is it being used
