Leitrim Hurling 2018 / League / Meagher Cup

(Oldest Posts First)

Just to give a bit of praise to the lads at the small ball, a great win today vs Fermanagh and one that should see them into the League final if they beat Cavan

It'd be great to see the hurlers building on the Meagher Cup Final appearance last year by getting promotion after losing out by a puck of a ball a few years ago.

Hopefully we can have a bit of discussion / positive vibes about them on this forum as their season ticks on

I'm sure they'll have the late Paddy Phelan in their thoughts in their pursuit of success this year too.

Best of luck to them.

Hope they can win this league as a tribute to a great hurling man and gentleman Paddy Phelan who with Mickey Dorrigan and Martin Cuniffe and a few others kept hurling going here for the last 30 odd years with no real support from anyone especially our county board. Best of luck to the hurlers for the rest of the league .

Congratulations to our Hurlers on a great victory.
I'm sure those who post so regularly their complaints were in Irvinestown cheering on our team.
They are a great bunch of lads and fully aware of their chance of a Divisional Final. Colm Moreton was immense ,scored a great goal and Zacs goal was sublime. We have some great hurlers including scoring forwards like Cathal O'Donovan and Ben Murray while Clements fee taking is the heartbeat of the team.
However GAA HQ are doing us no favours. As a result of our Meagher Cup final appearance we have bumped up to the Nicky Rackard Cup against much stronger opposition. So much for helping the development of hurling in the weaker counties. We are at home to Cavan in the final League do let's hope there is big home support.

Congrats to our Hurlers on a record scoring victory over Cavan. When did any Leitrim team ever score 6-21 - against Kilkenny footballers possibly?
It's now a rematch against Lancashire who beat us by a late point in the League. Clement Cuniffe among the Hurlers top League scorers. A great pity so few turned up in Pairc Sean to see this wonderful performance. The Hurlers deserve big support for the Divisional Final .let's hope football mgmnt will give permission to allow Colm Moreton a chance of winning a Hurling medal- he was not allowed play against Cavan although he was in Pairc Sean supporting the team. He was allowed play half a game against Fermanagh and should not be denied a chance to play in Leitrim's most important game of the year.

6-21 against the Kilkenny footballers? Close: Leitrim 4-26, Kilkenny 0-3 in 2012, just one point short. The closest Kilkenny got to being competitive in football since then was when Ciarán Kilkenny won four All-Irelands.

Best of luck to the hurlers on sunday be great to see them win a trophy. Being in Ballyconnell it's a close to a home game as we'll get so hopefully we'll have good support these lads deserve it.

Cracking game and great atmosphere generated in Ballyconnell yesterday. The sending off certainly had an impact as it meant they had to work harder to compensate but that they did. The team should be commended for their spirit and skill and if they could add a bit of luck to the mix then they will collect the trophies. Paul Earley, Conor Byrne, Karl McDermott, David McGovern and Clement Cunniffe were terrific throughout and never deserved to be on a losing team.

What a great League for our Hurlers. They deserved promotion but that late surge by Lancs kept them in it. Despite the obvious heartbreak of losing Our Hurlers can hold their heads high and look forward to a great future. Consider that one of our midfielders James McNabola is a teenager and we have scoring forwards of the highest quality we could yet surprise in the Championship. The Nicky Rackard will be a big step up but give it a lash lads. You have done us proud so far

Why is Saturday's Leitrim SHC final the first round of the championship? Is there only two hurling clubs competing in the county this year?

Congrats to Carrick Hurling on teaching Connacht Junior Final on Saturday in Ballyhaunis. Yes there are just 2 Hurling Clubs in Leitrim.

Would just like to wish the Carrick hurlers all the best at the weekend a tremendous achievement to win a first Connacht title and surely must fancy there chances against Castleblayney who are by all means a strong side also. I personally think ties like this ones at the weekend are what sets the club championship apart from other competitions. I think either way it will be great to see a Leitrim or a Monaghan team in Croke park in an all ireland hurling final. Best wishes to all involved.

Spare a thought for Leitrim hurlers who have now lost their opening League games by a single point. Sligo result particularly cruel following an amazing fight back. Two victories against Fermanagh & Longford could put Leitrim back in it. Keep it up lads- you are good enough to make it.
