Hard to imagine not picking Jack or James with O'Sullivan in the middle. Constant mention of people being pushed to midfield but it never happens. Although, I'd imagine Gavin may keep Small in the half back line and it'll be his challenge to not slip up and lose his place and the likes of Jack will grab his chance. Creating competition for places is what it is all about, no position is safe except Dermo and Cluxton.

Bastick is gone now though. He has started, or been first sub into midfield, for a number of years there.

Gavin seems to usually have 3 lads who'll play midfield during any given game. For the last while it has been a combination of Bastick, Mick Mac and Fenton. There's a gap at midfield now. I'd expect James and/or Flynn to be given game time at MF during the league. Carthy or even Ó Conghaile back in from the cold are options also.

I think Small will hold onto the #7 jersey, with James Mc on the other wing. Jack Mc could be a good option at wing forward, especially if Flynn is being looked at as a serious midfield option.
