Dublin Forum

The sweetest one yet.

(Oldest Posts First)

Bernard Brogan off-form

Paul Flynn off-form

No Rory O'Carroll, All star defender

No Jack McCaffrey, POTY last year

The emergence of John Small and David Byrne, unsung heroes who done a great job in the absence of the aforementioned ROC and JMcC

beating Donegal - quarter final

beating Kerry - semi final

Beating Mayo after a replay in the final

Back to back titles under the same management, first team to do it since cork in 89/90 ??

First Dublin team to do it since 76/77

The greatest Dublin team of all time.

The most special of the 4 recent all Ireland wins in my view.

Times that we should cherish, Players that we should cherish.

2016, Its been an absolute pleasure..

Champions.

Each one of the 4 were special

2011- Tyrone, Donegal, Kerry
2013- Cork, Kerry, Mayo
2015- Fermanagh, Mayo x 2, Kerry
2016- Donegal, Kerry, Mayo x 2

There was no soft all-Ireland there

We weren't going for back to back in any of the pevious finals, missing two all star defenders and a misfiring Bernard brogan and paul Flynn, Against a team who's "destiny" it was to win the all Ireland.

Magic.

This one is the most enjoyable for me since 2011, we put a great Kerry to in a box that day and they havent been out of it against us since.

We one this one in a different way, swash buckling football at times, grit, determination, scrapping and going to the well time and time again and coming up with the answers. We have dispelled the powder puff myth that was thrown at us after 2014. This one was won by strategy and problem solving rather then the free flowing football we have become used to.

To settle old scores against Meath, Donegal, Kerry and Mayo was very satisfying. We have forced both Kerry and Mayo into defensive football strategies, such is the fear our rivals have of this great Dublin team. One of the most telling things of this year was the pride Kerry took in their defeat as they werent hammered and it felt like Mayo had "won" a draw the last day. Both counties have abdaoned their footballing DNA of open attacking creative football and all to crack the code of how to beat this Dublin team. It really is an amazing by product of our success. The country and traditional power counties are on the back foot and rattled.

One of the most pleasing aspects of this year has been the transistion in the dynamic of the team, Fenton, Kilkenny, Rock, Cooper have become leaders in the team, the surprising emergence of Small and Byrne has made this panel even stronger in areas of the pitch we have had historic concerns around. The panel is stronger is now and if Jack or ROC come back next year - Jack will anyway, my god wehgave soem pool of players.

I see many allready writing the obituary of Bernard and Flynn, i dont subscribe to that, Jim will manage that perfectly as he did with Alan and those lads with four all irlenads in teir back pocket have many good days still ahead. Bastick will be a loss a steady, understated, expierenced influence and another midfeilder should be blloded in the league, EOC or Carthy given MDM erratic form and questions on whether him and Fenton can play together.

Im excited by the returning Jack, he gives us another dimension and goals. Costello will benifit hugely from Saturday night and those who watched him for the U21s will know he has the talent to become a marquee player for us. Then there is Con O Callaghan, what a footballer this lad is going to be, the next phase of evolution of this team is going to be fun.

The most pleasing thing about this years win is we covered every angle and answered every question. Want to play football - let play football. Want to rough us up - lets fight. Want to play the blancket defense - lets to do it. Want to play cynically - no problem. So many tests of phiosphey, so many ways we had to play to win, very satisfying against a high calibre of counties.
