Now Bricky you are well aware that under 16s can't play senior.

You used to be critical of Bredagh for not being able to field at minor but now that they can you're shifting the focus. If you are a hurling man which no doubt you are and a Down man which no doubt you are then you should be getting behind Bredagh who have put amazing work into promoting the the game in such a short time in an area of the county where there is no tradition. Such snide remarks are petty and unnecessary"
You've missed the point totally.

I know only too well that U16's can't play senior hurling, but its been well documented that for Bredagh's domination at U14 and lesser so at U16 and lesser again at minor, they can't get a lot of these juvenile stars to adult hurling other than the old die hard hurling families involved.

If they can solve that conundrum then we mightn't be too far away from a 4th senior hurling team in the county.

U16 final moved from Downpatrick to Ballycran on Sunday. I wonder why?

I'd say because it is a better pitch. When people say hurling is in Downpatrick no one wants to watch. Could you imagine a gaelic match in McKenna or ballygalget.

Bredagh won by 4 today. There was a strong wind down the field and I never thought Ballygalget did enough playing with the wind to win it. Half time they were 8pts to 2 up but playing with the wind Bredagh soon clawed that back.

Final score was Bredagh 2-10 1-9 Ballgalget. A bit of bad manners from the Ballgalget suppoters at the end. No call for it.

Like I said, Bad manners. The match officials saw it all.

Talking to the Bredagh lads afer and playing in the Antrim league brought them on big time. Something we should think about. Ballygalget would have been big favorites but playin the likes of Carryduff, Point, O'Rahillys etc did them no good. Bredagh were playin Rossa, Loughgeil and Ballycastle. Big difference

Bredagh 2-10 V 1-09 Ballygalget

Shocking scenes from Galget mentors upon the final whistle with punches thrown!!! Massive melee ruined a cracker of a game when the ref blew fir full time with both teams piling in.... shocking scenes!
A brilliant advertisement for under age hurling with Ballygalget playing with a Gael force wind in the first half but only going in 5/6 points up. Bredagh plugged away and got the goals that got them over the line. Could have either way this game. Cathal Coulter was excellent for the losers with Hanrahan & Costello the pick for Bredagh with McFarland outstanding at full forward.

Congratulations to Bredagh on winning the U16 championship. Bredagh 2-10 1-9 Ballygalget. I make that 4 feiles in a row 2 U16s on the trot and I see the minors are in a Shield final. The detractors from the Ards will have to revise their well worn rant that Bredagh can't develop their hurlers beyond U14

It is going from minor to senior not all this underage. It is good that they are progressing. Would like to think IF they win intermediate this year they might make a go at senior next yr. That is where they will be judged.

Correctamundo,

Developing underage hurlers into senior hurlers is where Bredagh seem to struggle.

Last year their U16's were unplayable and should have been the backbone of this years minors, but ended up in the shield due to Liatroim who didn't show a whole pile of anything last year at U16...
Liatroim, maybe a bit physical for the soft city boys?

Sure isn't it great, a better spread of competition is always good for the game.

If Bredagh enter the SHC next year they'll be embarrassed by whoever they play, should stay at intermediate for the time being until they bring a few more players through.

They would need to be beatin the Ards seconds regularly by big scores before they venture into SHC again.

In the event that Bredagh do enter the SHC next year, it would at least give two semi-finals if nothing else!

O'Rahillies are an amalgamation, normally of Castlewellan, Liatroim and Ballela when numbers are a bit short to field by themselves.
