Monaghan game

(Oldest Posts First)

Just back, we got out of jail, but could have won it in the end. Thought Monaghan totally dominated midfield the first half but we came into it in the second as Finlay seemed to tire.

A good effort by the lads. ALL the lads out their today showed that they are capable at this level. The stand out performers were Aidan Carr, Ryan mallon .

In fairness to Wee James, his tactical reshuffle moving Turley to midfield worked. We were getting cleaned out before that! Any word on what happened to King?

Thought Carr had great match.

Wee James got out of jail today. We where very poor for long periods of that games. The shapes of our forward line in particular was atrocious, we actually had no full forward line at all!!!! When a player is 40 - 50 yards from goal with no teammates in front of him for a pass what the hell can do but attempt a HAIL MARY or go back or side to side.

no way back to div 1 with that team needs good clear out and try to build with youth should it take 2/3 years to do

Peter Venkman, big King is getting married on Friday so he will not be available for the Armagh game either. We missed him badly against Monaghan, but we will all have to get used to packed defences. If we try to maintain man to man marking, as we did against Donegal and Mayo in the 2012 championship, we will get taken apart. The idea that we should ditch our older players is also flawed, as many of the youngsters like O'Hanlon, Madine and Boyle struggled for long periods against Monaghan and are not ready to take on central roles. We have a decent squad, but not an exceptional one, and until our injuries clear up all we can do is stick to the present plan and hope that we can consolidate in division two.

Injuries injuries - it is the same old rhetoric all the time. Bottom line is we have not got any depth in our squad. Look at Dublin on Saturday - their bench was awesome and more to come back as well.
We will just simply have to bide our time - the cycle will turn but it might be at a slower rate than what some want.

Decent result considering our starting lineup looked very weak on paper. Hoping by the later stages of the league we have more established men back;Ambrose Rogers, Kevin McKernan, Kalum King, Dan Gordon, Connor Laverty, Paul McComiskey, Brendan MacArdle, Danny Hughes, Declan Rooney etc Cant see us lasting too long with this xv being honest although any county would struggle with such a long list of mia's
