Malachy O’Rourke has ruled himself out of the running to become Derry’s next senior football manager, according to a report from The Irish News.

O’Rourke, who departed his post as Monaghan boss a month ago after six years in charge, had been one of the early front runners to succeed Damian McErlain in the Oak Leaf County.

However, it is understood that the Derrylin native is opting to take a year out from inter-county football.

Paul McIver, Johnny McBride and Mickey Moran are still thought to be among the candidates for the vacancy.
