Republican I dont think a goalkeeper making 3 or 4 great saves as luck. The unluck I am eluding to was the black card of the NY wing back who never touched his opponent and a more than dubious penalty given to Roscommon. That's what i mean by the little bit of luck needed.

Replying To UP_THE_PUBS:  "jeez lad have some sense of optimism who says cadden won't be able to pull it off again.....granted they might not win (their not expected to)....but have a sense of belief.......everyone is this town is so hung up the negativity and nit-picking at NY.....what they fail to see is a team that has a legitimiate shot not to mention a home grown talent in Shane Hogan who is just as good as some of county players back at home.....NY will give it a right go and if their down by 2-3 points at half time on a slippery day at gaelic park one never knows stranger things have happened."
Sense of optimism? Do you not see what county I am from?!

ah lad indeed always a bridesmaid never a bride!...... well lad hate to break it yeh but there is strong belief in this town something that has never been done before might happen....NY time is coming if not here they took on a decent Donegal panel and held their own........and its on turf field the NY boys know how to run and cut on that turf..........its not like 5 years ago when we had one of worst NY teams of all time this team fine tuned and ready to play

Why all the full stops? I'm not disputing that you could pull off an upset and I was just making the point you had a lot of luck last year. We are no world beaters and we are well aware of that(us the fans) but we have a huge advantage in having competitive games behind us. I just hope our players are as honest. I'm biting the bullet and going for a 9-12 point victory however for the tourists.

If New York do beat Sligo, will they be able to make the trip to Castlebar?

Asked that question at the Donegal game and from what I was told 95% of the squad will have no issues travelling. Those days are gone where over half the squad would have visa issues.

I see the New York Board had a game cancelled Saturday evening. This does not bode well for the 2017 season.

Not good at all if teams are not showing up now, but it shows that some teams are truly dependent on the J1ers and summer imports in order to survive. Still no information on the status of Gaelic Park getting new sod. Anyone hear anything? Not much being talked about the match this coming Sunday with NY vs Sligo....don't understand why there is so much secrecy when it comes to information.

around 20 people in stands Saturday night. awful turnout not helped by only one game being played. rumors that clubs don't know the schedule or didn't know they were playing??? how on earth can that happen?? there seems to be no communication at all and we don't know yet if the park will be closed for a period.

Are there any sites, other than this where reports on games are published?

Well NYCCavan, only site where you can find out schedule is NY GAA website. Other then that, no run down on matches that I know of.

thanks, the NY GAA website is confusing though. it states some games played this year so far are league and some are championship. is this the case? thought all games so far are league. also has divisions mixed up eg. Shannon gaels in Junior A. they should be junior B. seems nothing can be done right!!

Shannon Gaels are in Junior B. See by the results that two championship games were played to legalize NY team players. Those games were Kerry v Donegal in senior and Sligo v Westmeath in Inter mediate.
See Monaghan did not show up again yesterday. Monaghan seem to make a habit of it. No respect for the Assoc. or the fans.

The junior A game between Manhattan and Rockland was also listed as championship, although I don't think any NY players represent those teams (Rockland 2nds). the whole thing seems very haphazard

Cadden the New York keeper hand tripped Murtagh on the penalty. It was a correct call but according to the rule book a hand trip is a black card. After that penalty Cadden went on to produce a man of the match display.

The ref also ignored 2 or 3 other straight forward blacks and a red card for a forearm smash that broke the cheekbone of the Roscommon corner forward. All in all its a bit far fetched to complain about New York's lack of luck in that game.

I would expect Sligo to win by 6+ points on Sunday night and to not trouble Mayo in the following game.

Arrived at park yesterday to see a few games first game up Barnabas vs. Monaghan and Monaghan could not field a team. Barnabas seemed to have a good squad but what a waste of time for everyone.

I see the odds on NY have been slashed from 6/1 to 11/4 for sunday. Sligo have released an article that they are missing students with exams. wonder if this is just covering themselves or is there real money coming in for NY....

the refs will not let NY win this game.....we saw it last year vs Roscommon and in 2010 vs galway.......NY will keep it close....but expect unknown (i.e. an undeserved penalty, or undeserved black/red card)
