Malachy's Successor

Replying To latefortraining:  "The reality is that despite all that has been written on this forum over last few months only one suitable candidate has emerged to take the job. There has been no interest from anyone other that the banty and mcentee camps. That tell you all you need to know about what kind of task is involved with taking on this Monaghan side. Pauric Duffy was given the role of finding and interviewing the candidates. A very capable man and institute enough to know what it takes. Mcentee despite what is written about his coaching pedigree does not come up to scratch. Conor lavery and Peter Donnelly however have held coaching roles with third level universities and several countries (Down, Cavan and Tyrone) and have had success . Despite the failures of Monaghan u20 last year Banty lets not forget took our minors to an all Ireland semi final. Hes the best option at this moment in time ."
Banty was relevant about 12 years ago. Maybe more. Hot favouriites in 2010 ... totally out smarted by Harte and beaten out the gate. And there was an All Ireland for the taking that year. The fact that we are seriously discussing the possibility of a second coming is a real worry. Did nothing with Meath ... run out of the place. Zero with Wexford .. apart from sending two hatchet men out to take out McManus ... which ultimately they did. Did not see the u-20s but believe they were very poor ... at great expense to the county board $$.

Everyone deserving of their opinion .... and mine is that this would be a regressive step which will alienate both players and "many" certainly supporters.

The county board are currently split re appointing him ..... if the latest info/rumour is to be believed.

Replying To FootblockREF:  "Is there any reason why Eoin Lennon isn't being discussed? Surely an Assistant manager is there to provide continuity? Who is favourite for Dublin job when it is available? Jason Sherlock! I don't know Eoin Lennon well but I know he's as straight as an arrow, has a real gra for Monaghan football and did a decent job with Latton in his one year with them. Respect from the players won't be an issue. I know he doesn't have much management experience but neither will Sherlock. I'd put him ahead of any other candidate."
Jack O Connor after all Ireland went back to the Development Squads through to Minors
Declan Bonner came through Development Squad Management to Minors
Jason Sherlock Development Squads , next year minors
Mickey Harte is currently with U14 Development Squad, all successful Counties, is there not a message there for us? So why should anyone just walk into Management without the hard yards?

Im beginning to think this is another one of Bantys media spin on things. He's walking round carrick like he's the KING!!!! His ability to fool people in incredible just look at the plot auction at Corduff gala ball -ALL Bluff no plot for auction at all. Are the county board that foolish???? Wait for the irish news to have an article on him now about his football knowledge !!!

My information is that Tyrone tried to keep Donnelly on a part time basis and Ulster Rugby refused. The release about Donnelly's availability states "It is believed Donnelly can combine both jobs". That's an absolute nothing statement. This is from Banty's people. The same people who claimed in 2010 they had a letter signed from every player wanting him to stay when they had nothing of the sort. But it's not only us he has fooled. I remember watching him and Oisin McConville being interviewed by BBC radio before 2014 Ulster Radio. McConville has won every possible honour in the game and Banty? Div 2 NFL title won on the same day where Oisin won Div 1. And as the scoreboard said that day as we invaded the pitch it's time for "Plan B".

The sad thing about the end of Malachy rein as Monaghan manager was the lack of respect by supporter walking out with 15 minutes to go. It showed a lack of respect to the team and management for what they give this county over the years.

One such person to walk out was Seamus McEnaney.

Cahair O'Kane reporting tonight that Banty's appointment ratified. Appears genuine.

A dark day. This is the end of our golden generation. We didn't qualify for an Ulster final in the 60's or 90''s. Perfectly timed appointment for another decade of drought.

There are a lot of negative comments on the Irish News facebook page to this story.

I hope it's not true. It would be a huge step back and a waste of the remainging years of a lot of good players.

The antics are awful, like something from the dark ages. If it's true and he lasts a year I'll be surprised.

If true this is just embarrassing. Clowns on the CB have ruined and wasted the next few years. Couldn't blame lads if they take time out or retire now.

Can't believe this
Cahair O'Kane
@CahairOKane1

Understand that Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney has been appointed as Monaghan manager for the second time, nine years after he first left the job. More details in tomorrow's Irish News #GAA

Confirmed now in the mainstream media. A v disappointing decision by our county board which will see monaghan back down the ranks to where we came from. Can only assume powers that be feel there is nothing left in current group of players and a rebuild is needed but to give it to a manager who was last relevant at inter county level about 12 years ago is a mistake. Is already going down like a lead balloon with monaghan supporters where such goodwill had been built up with the players over last few years. The county board have in one decision reversed all the progress made under malachy o rourke and will reap what they sow when we are back with the leitrims and Waterfords of this world.

Rumours of early retirements already circulating and would be shocked if they remain just rumours. County board did indeed get this wrong. Giving it to an up and coming Monaghan club manager would have been the smart move if we had "no alternative"

And here come the naysayers.we should be glad a manager of bantys calibre wants the job and row in behind him and the lads for 2020 with less of the negativity from the social media trolls.banty puts his heart and soul into everything that breathes Monaghan football.rough year with the u20s this year but any other team in Monaghan he's been with he has brought a lot of success and no shortage of passion..
