Kildare U21s

There can be no doubts it wasnt the best u21 team available in the county, and i have some sympathy with the manager for that, as some players just werent available due to college commitments and travel required for training, but it still dosent explain the odd placing of some players and the omission of some others, for that the buck stops with the manager. forgetting the north / south kildare thing its still a fact that 2 clubs made up half the team.

You hit the nail on the head mick. Personally myself i dont think platers were picked on merit. They were picked on who you are and if you were known by the management team. I was in with the team until about 2 months ago when i said iv enough, not getting a chance and lads who i knew i was better than getting game time and me warming the sideline. Its hard when its like that. Syl and sos to me didnt have much of a say it was all cribben and sullivan, two north kildare men which showed with the team selection in most games

I agree that players we're picked because they have been playing underage all the way up and that it was a closed panel.

But to bring up the north / south thing is a joke. As much of a dissapointment it was I think that cribben and sullivan believed they put out the best team possible.

Even if it were the case that lads are picked because they are from the North of the county that's the way it happend years ago. Except the bias was towards south players for years.

But that's not the case anymore.

i don't think the argument that it was a closed panel holds up, 3 of the starting team didn't feature on the minor panel of 3 year ago

Anyone know anything about why Wayne Fitzpatrick wasn't even on the u21 panel? Am sure he's overage for minor this year.Seen as a great prospect last year.

Thanks Mick. Thought almost half that minor team were still underage this year. Flynn and Sherry impressive as well though I know Sherry was commuting from south kilkenny which is probably a factor for him.The whole under 21 set up seemed to be disjointed this year.

there all overage as far as im aware. its obvious the manager didnt fancy them. its a horrible competition i think with the time of year its played at and clashing with college matches aswell, not to mention lads on the senior team and training with there clubs.

I think that Colleges ,particularly Sigerson is now more of a priority with most players.

u21 is a nothing grade anymore to be fair. It just adds to fixture clutter and congestion.

before this topic fizzles out one final point to back up my thoughts, sarsfields u21s current county u21 champions had one player starting against offaly.

It must be pointed out that the current u21 champions won the championship with a team that contained 10 if this years minor team

The same sash minor team that has put 20 point winning margin hammerings on every team in the minor league so far, indeed a very talented side or else the standard in Kildare is going down. I think the Kildare Minor Team have also 10 Sarsfields players starting and have taking some good beatings in the Leinster League so far...

Fearban,

I can confirm that the Sarasfields are good but the standard in Kildare in Division 1 minor is dreadful this year also.

meath shocked that brilliant offaly team who beat kildare last night, ffs now will people realise how cat our managment were.
its fair enough to say sarsfields were a very young u21 team, and looks like they will dominate for a while at that level, but one starter and one sub?

All blame lies with the management team.

Meath were without two marquee players too..To be honest, results don't bother me too much at that level.Look at Galway etc...
