Lost to Kerry today not sure of the final score but it was close up an to half time.hopefully these games are been used to try players out but not that long left to find a settled team. I wonder that will the policy be re the young lads on the senior team and availability etc

Offaly beat Wexford 1-16 to 0-6 tonight so Kildare play them in Athy in 2 weeks

Kildare beat Offaly well at minor in Tullamore 3 years ago so you'd expect them to win this at home.

On the other hand that same team then went on to get annihilated by Dublin in the next round so maybe we shouldn't read too much into it!

Very good performance from Offaly last night inspite of the poor opposition. All the makings of a close encounter in Athy on Wednesday week.

Boost for Kildare GAA as Dan Flynn has returned from Australia permanently and trained this morning (Sunday) with U21s.

Dan Flynn is in for Neil Flynn, bit harsh on the lad as he's been training for months but then again u21 is win or bust

Lost 13 to 9 and in fairness offaly were more than 4 points better. Cleaned out midfield winning by far most of the breaking ball.we hardly even got a block in whereas Offaly got at least 9 or 10. Thought Egan,Conway and Hyland our best players.

I disagree with Dan Flynn starting over a lad that has been training and putting in huge effort with this setup all year. That can't have been good for morale. I'm as happy as anyone else that Dan is back but that just shouldn't have happend.

I also think that we have a habbit of treating our young county players like superstars and after a while they start to believe it.

Anyone who's ever met Tom Cribbin will know that any suggestion Tom would pick any player other than on merit is utter nonsense. He'll put out what he believes is the best 15, absolutely no question. North/South bias in selection ? Give me a break lads, there are far more important issues in Kildare football to worry about

mmmm do you still believe that kildarekelly?
neal flynn was one of our best minors last year and didnt even come on, hes a better forward than some that started last night.

Did Neil Flynn from Maynooth not play last night?.Either way its a disaster.Should be looking to beat Offaly. Seems to be the same names who get the coaching jobs in this county. How about trying someone new.A Jason Ryan of underage.Theres too many lads on the circuit who pop up in the same circle of jobs.Nothing personal but underage requires a fresh face and new ideas,in my opinion.

Dubya,

Agreed 100%. Take Brian Murphy as another example. How long did we have to wait for him to deliver? Along with the fact that his panels seemed to be closed to any newcomers.

Fair enough, maybe he is just limited then. i dont think it was the best available team, and maybe neil and pascal o connell should have started. anyway its gone now for another year. 2 steps forward and 1 step back at underage.

Very disappointing way to go out on Wednesday night.

Questions need to be asked why Conway was in midfield, Grehan at full forward and Flynn in the corner with a sweeper played throughout.

Overall though we haven't been overly impressive at under 21 level this year, beat Westmeath before losing to Roscommon badly and drawing with Clare in the Hastings Cup. Challenge match defeats to Kerry, Cork and Donegal, with a win against Mayo somewhere in between? There didn't seem to be a whole lot of consistency regarding team selection along the way either.

I think it shows how special our team was last year that 12 of the starters against Galway have gone on to play for the seniors since.

Hopefully over the next two years some of last years minors can develop and become just as good, if not better.

I agree, it probably wasn't the best available team. Very disappointing result. Agree with a couple of other posters that maybe a fresh face would be no bad idea. Very hard to see Tom Cribben keeping the job after that. My argument all along was that this 'North/South' (let me know if see a KEN licenceplate anytime soon !!!) thing was nonsense; suggesting that a manager would deliberately not pick his best team just because of where someone was from.
Anyway, we'll see I guess..the only positive (grasping at the straws I know) is that it's less games for the likes of Brophy who has played a huge amount of football already this year between O'Bryne, league & Sigerson...
