Kevin has been very good for Galway in terms of where they were when he came in. DIV 2 champs, 13 out of 14 points DIV 1 2018. Big win, first in 50 years over Kerry in Championship and very good V Mayo and Kildare also. 2 Connachts. The main point his critics make is that he did not do well enough considering the great forwards at his disposal. I do not buy this. We have no forward who even in the NFL is clocking up 6 or 7 points in a match regularly. When you take the 2001 AI winners out of it we have only had 3 top forwards since, players who could notch a big score in big games, Micheal Meehan, Nicky Joyce and latterly Gary Sice. My only gripe with KW would have been the huge amount of game time certain players were give while others got little or no chance, and his slowness to change players who were playing poorly in matches.

Replying To kazoochka:  "I don't get the argument over the frees. Shane Walsh is an intercounty free taker. Is he Dean Rock or Brian Stafford level? No but he is still high quality. Barry McHugh wasn't good enough in open play to justify being selected and Dean Rock wouldn't be on the Dublin team simply to take frees if he wasn't also a top class player generally.

We also have other options as free takers for lads who are good enough to be in the 15, like Daly and Cooke. If McHugh was as good as those two then by all means it would be great to have a top class free taker in the 15 but he isn't close."
If you remember when Dean Rock first played for the Dublin team he gave very little from open play. He was there purely for his accuracy off frees. However he gradually improved and is now a top forward. I think the same time should have been given to McHugh. Just think back to last years Semi-Final against Dublin, we left at least 4 or 5 points behind us due to bad free taking. And early on against Mayo in the Connacht championship Mchugh nailed a couple of loing range frees in the first half to keep us in it. We need a RELIABLE free taker, will win nothing without one. And my heart goes out to our brfilliant Minor team who had victory snatched at the death..

How many players realistically score 6 or 7 from play ever these days? Scores are created by teamwork and coming on to loops at the right time more than a man simply roasting his individual marker 1 on 1 like in the old days. Maybe Paddy McBrearty, Paul Mannion , Conor McManus and David Clifford on great days. Very few, and usually against weak opposition in the early rounds of championship.

Almost Every manager in the country outside of Jim Gavin would give their back teeth for Damien Comer, Shane Walsh and Ian Burke.

Rochford himself hasnt said anything. That is just the clubs having their say and ratifying Declan Bonner and in some part his management team. Rochford isnt actually tied down to Donegal yet. I cant believe he wouldnt take Galway job if offered.

As County Board has no money will need someone to Manage for very little outlay. Someone who is based in the City would be ideal.

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "You're neglecting one key aspect there. Mayo were a serious outfit 2011-2015. They declined slowly 2016-2019, leaving Galway & Roscommon to split 4 Connacht titles. You'd like to think that if we progressed in 'leaps and bounds' as you assert, then we'd have taken all 4 of those recent titles, and Ros would have none. Sorry Ros!!"
Declined slowly in 2016-2019? Yet they were within a kick of the ball of winning an All Ireland in 2016 & 2017 (we beat them both years in the Championship). I give up.

You don't happen to remember that day we went man to man against Kerry in Croke Park? All Ireland Quarter I think in 2014. Madness. The structures/professionalism have brought us up to speed with the "top counties" since 2015, Anyone to come out and say we haven't improved "leaps and bounds" in the Kevin Walsh era is fooling themselves or have very short memories.

former Leitrim coach Benny Guckian is available. he is widely credited for laying the foundations for the division four success and has an excellent pedigree of promoting underage players isnt it

In his statement ,he made some recommendations to the county board -would love to see that document made public because I get the feeling we are way behind in facilities, equipment, player development etc. compared to other counties. Mark Gottsche is a Croke Park appointment and it would be interesting to get a brief on his role -If he goes out and collect an additional €1m ,does it go to pay down debt or does it go towards county team developments .Can't have everyone dipping into the same pot.

At least there should be an increase in the sale of football season tickets for the upcoming year.

His tenure will be defined by Shane Walsh winning him one Connacht Final and Danny Cummins and Gary Sice another. Connacht Champions in the era of the back door is not the accolade it once was. Repeat abject performances in Croke Park characterised by managerial failings and some real outside the box thinking.
