Football Championship 2019

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

New format agreed for next year. 18 teams in Senior Championship. Three groups of 6 teams and each team to have a minimum of 5 games. Semi Finalists from last year to be seeded. This means that two seeded teams will end up in one group. Top two in each group to qualify for the Quarter finals. The three teams that finish third in each group to have a play off for the final two spots. Two teams to be relegated and two promoted from Intermediate.

A guarantee of 5 championship games for each team is great, but I just wonder when these games will actually get played. I fear that it will be mostly put on hold until the county team's interest in the championship has ended and then there will be a frantic scramble to get the county championship played off before the connacht club championship starts.

What's the logic for 2 up and 2 down ???
I heard they wanted to relegate 3 teams again this year to make it 16 for the Senior Intermediate and Junior, but they were told by Connacht Council or Croke Park that it was against some rule that you can't lose that many teams in such a short time so why go 2 up and 2 down ??. They will be relegating 3 again next to make it 16 teams anyways

How many teams go up/down?

Top 2 teams qualify for q/f from group 1&3, top 3 teams from group 2 (because it has 2 seeded teams) and the last team on highest points from either group 1 or 3.

First glance Predictions
Group 1: salthill, miltown
Group 2: corrofin, A'down, st james
Group 3: Moylough, killanin,
Moycullen to qualify on points

Relegation battle: spiddal, killererin, claregalway, leitir mor, monivea, carraroe

So on points the 3rd team in group A or C goes to the quarter final. Is the 3rd team that doesn't qualify on points safe or do they go to relegation?

Group 2 in the Senior is without doubt the group of death.

With so many senior players on the county panel Moycullen should be going far this year. If they don't question marks will be raised if their good enough to be involved in the county setup.

And they're will be people waiting with the pitchforks for the lads if we don't do well. Now there's only one killanin panel member we must be ready to abuse the players from the neighbouring club. Who cares if the players have shown they have a right to be on the panel

I never said anything about about abusing players galwayfball. I'm just making a point that the Moycullen lads have not performed well with Galway this year. Bar Sean Kelly who I can give a free pass to beacuse of injury. Bradshaw, Cooke and Wynne have all been poor this year for Galway.
