Clare Senior Hurlers 2017

To be fair they only used the sweeper last night for the last 8-10 mins of the first half when we were already 10 points down.

Apparently gudgie o'connell is not on the panel anymore and wasnt prior to the munster final either! Dont know why!

Mcinerney it seems will be out, he'll be a massive loss!! Dillon as a direct replacement to be expected. I would think that management eill make at least one more change, mccarthy being the most likely to come in. Possibly for o'brien or maybe podge depending on how they want to play it. Malone probably did enough to retain his position in the managers' eyes, while its unlikely they would drop cleary. Even though i would probably take those 2 out..

Under 21's were well and truly hammered. Kyle Hayes dominated as Limericks sweeper and GIllane was unstoppable., he did some damage. Cian Lynch a lovely stick man too and their midfield was unreal. Worryingly, Clare had no hunger and I honestly expected them to have a bit of bite. You wouldn't pick out Galvin or Shanagher with only D Fitz playing well. Mc Carthy was ok for parts. The whole crowd were very dejected at half time and as a Clare fan, being there was terribly crushing after the week we had.

Interesting about Gudgie, Hurlingexpert... That's a strange one. He's well worth his place on the squad if not the team so hope he's back soon. I imagine he feels he is good enough to start especially with the year he had at Ballyea where he was brilliant. Speaking of which, is Jack Browne worth a shot at full back? Maybe next season even? Don't know enough about him...

I reckon its fair to say that none of us here would claim to know more than successful managers who have proven it at at any county level but these 30+ lads are all putting in the same effort with fella's training all year around, no social life and a strict diet and this management team are starting lads that have had a week or two training. Podge trained for an hour in the run up to the Cork game, D Mc I coming off a hamstring and OOB was never gonna be at the pace against cadogan even if he was fully fit!

What does that say to lads bursting their guts to get a chance. Hope lads don't get pissed off and leave the panel

So true Doyler

Safe to say that Management have made bad use of the panel why would any young man put life on hold as you say with no opportunities at starting

As somebody said if you can return to playing after 6 monts out and make a success out of it, the fellows training 4/5 nights a week are only codding themselves {no need to train}

I have always thought that Brian Cody Alex Furguson excuse me mentioning a soccer manager were worth their wwight in gold as managers they developed players/players played for them sometimes average players, these managers now seem to be stuck back in 2011-2013

Podge was brilliant in 2013 and all his days up minor 21 et but a bad cruciate definately affected him his club man Cathal McInerney was most promising we havent seen him so many more i could mention Flanagan/O Connell/ Browne/Deasy best club hurlers in Ireland 2016/2017, Cunningham always good in Thurles no one can argue that, all these periphery players wont stay at it, hard to blame them, the fans already well gone
I will go to Cork but so many wont travel

The sad thing is that they think what they did worked, the examiner article PM O Sullivan mentioned today if you wanted to deny Lehane space {and why were we so worried anyway what about O Donnell Conlon McGrath Shanagher in our side} then drop Conor McGrath to Half Forward Conlon to midfield and Kelly or Galvin in front of Lehane then have two forwards splitting the 3 full back line or let the corner back who is jittery in possession { he mentioned a name} have the short puck out

did it really take two weeks as reported for them to work out what they went with, B side were also supposed to be donned in Cork Jerseys in training

Dont know if true dont think Cody would be bothered with it

To attend the match in Cork the cost in the stand is 35 euro, if you purchase onmatch day ,30 euro, five for a child for a child ,and 20 euro for terrace admission. Then you have the terrible experience of driving through Cork city to get there. In addition you have the cost of travel,no small amount especially if you are travelling from West Clare or North Tipp. Does the GAA think we are made of money.? Well we wont be going that,'s for damn sure!!!!!!!!!

It's a real pity. I hope we are all proven wrong with a victory over Tipp but I fear even a win against Tipp would continue to paper over the cracks appearing with this squad of players and now it seems with this management team. If that is true about the B team in Cork jerseys, I really do worry about Clare and find myself agreeing more and more with Ger Loughnane that Clare have an inferiority complex.

Not trusting lads or giving fit members of the panel a go.. Throwing away sliothers before a match, building an entire gameplan around stopping cork, playing Galvin as sweeper and focusing on one to two players when instead Clare should focus on their own best players... Crazy stuff.

Unreal pricey. Pitch is supposed to be in dire straights too but its a rush job and needs the money! I will travel myself to see the campaign out but many wont as its so pricey. Especailly for families.

An outsiders viewpoint - a Clare team to be feared

Kelly
O'Brien, Dillon and Morey
Cleary, McInerney and O'Connor
Fitzgerald and Galvin
McCarthy, Kelly and Conlon
O'Donnell, Shanagher and McGrath

Collins brings no benefit, McI wasted at 3, O'Connor wasted at 4
Forget this sweeper and play man for man
bring back Daly - current two have no clue about Senior Hurling

here's hoping no one is listening

watched the U21s Wed on TG4 - deplorable, worst U21 side I've ever seen, destroyed in 1st half and Limerick controlled it thereafter - have no confidence in the new management team - psychologically - tipp have the advantage here, tips by 10+ pulling up

Clare hurling is regressing back twenty years despite the undoubted talent unless real pedigree management steps in and rescues

The Clare team did not lose to Cork - the management did! To have allowed the short C ork puck outs to raindown on a beleaguered clare back line was sheer lunacy. We have the very best full forward line in the whole country and we fed them on a starvation diet. The one chance given to Mc Grath underlined the point I am making. Touch of Class , ypu are right on . Our whole future is in jeopardy with the present mismanagement.

Largely agree with this team but I'd prefer a full back line of POC, Dillion and Morey and half back line of Fitzgerald, Mc I & Cleary with Galvin and Mc Carthy in Midfield. I'd also swap conlon with shangher.

You are dreaming if you think ye have the very best full Forward line in the Country.

I think few would claim this from Clare. Mc Grath would make any full forward line in the country alright

DOYLER you have a very short memory. In the game against Limerick our full forward line showed their real class . After ten minutes they scored two goals which sealed the victory. After that they lived on scraps . Name any other three forwards from any county who are superior . You named McGrath but what about O Donnell and Shanagher . We will never see their class again . Sit back in admiration!!!!!

Talent wise yes, Clare have a deadly full forward line but I think mc Grath is among the top ten hurlers in the country, the other two are not there yet. Again this is solely my opinion! I think Tipps entire full forward line is better compared to Clare's and cork and Galway are there or there abouts too.

As for better forwards... surely Callanan, Canning, bubbles, John Mc Garth, Shane Bennett or Horgan would make the Clare team?

I'm still out on shanagher. Harsh maybe but he seems to lack that killer instinct when he gets the ball... Still, Clare could have their full forward line sorted for the next 6-7 years

DOYLER, Nbody is denying there are some excellent forwards in many counties.Bt the point I make is that no individual county has as impressive a trio as Clare 0' DONNELL.SHANGHER,MC'GRATH.That is all I will say about it. Now we must just hope and pray that next SATURDAY every member of thClare team rises up and takes that game by the scruff of the neck. It will take every player's best Effort to win!!!!!!!

are you for real....what about bubbles, callinan, and john mcgrath
what about luke meade pat horgan and alan cadogan.
conor mcgrath is a top class forward but he's the only one that would get into the tipp fullforward line.

Luke Meade? Get real. The other lads fair enough all top class but Meade is way off top notch yet, calm your self doyler with your fawning.

Doyler - in response to your question about jack browne, he definitley wouldnt be suited to fullback at this level. Hes a good hurler, but he is too small for full back and tends to foul too much.

Clooney - aaron cunningham has never been a consistent performer when he starts, only good display i can rember is in the league last year against kilkenny. But other than that aaron has always been much more effective when introduced as a sub!

Touchofclass - that team wouldnt be far off what i would like to see, although it would work far better is fizgerald was swapped with mccarthy. Maybe a little harsh on podge as well. Id possibly bring him in for cleary, putting mccarthy back to wing back, kelly to midfield and podge center forward.

I think we have the 4th best full forward line in the country.
1. Bubbles, Callanan, McGrath
2. Whelan, Cooney, Mannion (probably how they'll line up when mannion is back)
3. Harnedy, Horgan, Cadogan (Meade doesnt play in the corner)
