Return of Seanie Johnston

He will need to change his attitude to get anywhere near the Cavan panel again.

Johnson is an ageing player who turned his back on the county.think he shud not be brought back to county team-we only improved since he left and him coming back will set out the wrong stall for younger players coming through.in my opinion his attitude stinks and what did he do for Kildare this year-nothing-didnt even start a game.he can b done without which is prob a very sore point for him considering he thought he was the only forward Cavan had when he was playing.ive been playing club football a good few years and have gone from a full game player to maybe getting in as a sub but I still put the same effort in to training attendance and effort.thats what t GAA is all about giving ur all for ur team and parish&if ur lucky enuf to play for ur county there shud b no slack in effort.

If I was the county board I would not even sanction the transfer if at all possible.
The massive storm in a tea cup he created to get away from the county, in the news paper every other day for months. Gets his transfer finally, makes another show down in Kildare by playing in a hurling match to become eligible in time for the county team. Didn't make any significant strides or in roads with Kildare, realises now that they are not actually as good as they were made out to be. Low and behold, he wants to jump ship again back to Cavan.
Croke park should not entertain the move.
All Seanie ever wanted was to play county football at the highest level, he got that wish, you made your bed now lie in it.

His return can only be permitted if it receives the unanimous approval of every player and mentor in the Cavan panel in an open squad discussion, coupled with a marked improvement in attitude and return to form.

I have said already that I completely support tyrone's win at all costs approach so I would have to support seanie's return if it improved our chances of success.

It would be hiprocritical of me to say otherwise."

Cavanman47 - Why would you have to support his return? Do you you think he should be welcomed back? Not atall in my view. He made his bed in wanting to go to Kildare, now he must lie in it. He has some neck on him if he thinks he can play for us again after all he did, and taking that free against us in Breffni Park last summer was the end of it all for me.

cavan will be cheering this man on in a blue shirt again, mark my words.

Champion 2011

I agree it wasn't nice to see that.

But give your honest answer to this.

Let's say he plays with the Gaels. They win the championship. He gets top scorer and player of the year. The Cavan players want him back. Terry decides to give him a run in the McKenna cup. He plays well and gets some league games. His attitude is completely changed and is working harder than ever for the team.
Suddenly we are in an ulster final and he comes on with 10mins to go to kick us to victory where we would otherwise have lost (think Wicklow a couple of years back) Show me one Cavan fan who wouldn't be delighted.

Now seanie is a long long way from convincing me that he can be considered again but it wouldn't be in the best interests of Cavan football to completely ignore a man playing out of his skin for his club and willing to put in the effort for his county. Remember terry didn't drop him so there should be no bad blood there. Mackey has already said he'd love to have him back. Like I said, it ALL players and staff want him Back and he's playing we'll and his form and attitude is where it needs to be, I would want him available rather than accept a narrow defeat out of stubbornness.

You're basing your argument entirely on assumptions. What may I ask has you so convinced that he's going to play out of his skin in the club championship? This is a player who could not make the Kildare team ahead of a handful of u21 players. Anyway, he's a Kildare player still is he not? Many people play club football in one county and inter-county football for another.

Why are we even discussing this, look what progress has been made since he left. There has been a complete change of attitude and a desire to succeed - all the things he didn't n look to have when he played. I wouldn't have him near that panel of players, wouldn't even let him watch a training session

I agree with finea3 that this is a discussion we could do without right now. What has it got to do with our team?
We're ranked 8th in the country at the moment. This was hard won by a bunch of dedicated players. It's an insult to
them to start going on about this when they're just recovering from an exhausting championship where they gave every ounce
of themselves for the blue jersey. Eaten bread is soon forgotten by some people. Give it a rest for a while.

"Very fickle fans" for NOT wanting him back. Is that some kind of a joke? Even tomsmith wouldnt come out with a gas one liner like that

Mayo have been better off since Mortimer left, James Horan didn't go looking to recall him back this year. One bad apple can make a mess of things.

Yes I am indeed, because that's pretty much what it would take for him to deserve consideration.

As for playing for Kildare next year, I'm not sure he can. A Kildare man has told me that and said he had no idea why but had it on good authority.

Seanie isn't the maverick Mortimer is and wasn't considered a 'problem' until that last year when he and some others clashed with management.

Watch:

He'll be welcomed back by his club, he'll put a couple of exceptional Championship performances in, he'll play a couple of challenge matches under lights for Cavan around February (low key), word will filter through and silly season will ramp up on this forum, he'll make a few off-the-bench appearances in Div 3 next year in front of modest crowds, some will grumble. He'll feature for Cavan in next years Ulster Championship and by the second game the herd will have moved on to some other juicy drama.

I just remembered.

Seanie will not be eligible to play for Kildare next year if he doesn't feature for st. Kevin's as he has no family (parents/grandparents) tie to Kildare.

under no circumstances should he be even considered. lets not forget what he done.
he left cavan to go to a so called better county.
he betrayed his club and his county no matter how well he is playing that should never be forgotten.

What is Willie Stroker another smart ass GAA supporter with nothing to say or to offer .

First off I have only heard that S.Johnston is coming back to the gaels and rightly so. He is a Cavan lad he teaches in Cavan and should be playing his football in Cavan. I must add two things here I could write a book on players in Cavan and that would include players going back to 97 and even back to the 80ts. Seannie got bad advise of that there is no doubt. If he were to get back to full fitness level not many in Cavan could fill his position both for skill cuteness and his ability to score. Be honest here name one person who could do it better than him???
When you look at the present set up and the way they are playing it would be very difficult for him to blend in for as I have always said and I will continue to say a forward 99% of the time is only as good as the supply but one thing Seannie has is loads of strength and is well able to look after himself.
Why would Mr Hyland ask the team if Seannie was playing back with the gales and got back to his former self could he bring him back to the fold what a load of b****cks Mr Hyland would make this decision himself and its as it should be. ( We had enough player power over the years)
I am neither a fan of Cavan Gales or Seannie but when a player is playing as a team player and is willing to commit who the hell are you or I to question if he should or should not play again for Cavan.
Its a know fact how I feel about McGeeney and what he did to rub salt into all Cavan peoples wounds bringing him on to score a point when they had Cavan dead and buried but in fairness to Seannie he scored and its as it should be football is his passion.
Getting back to Willie Stroker before I sign off. This individual has nothing to offer the true GAA supporter it's ethos nothing at all and to show his stupidity towards London with his reply is showing his ignorance about the GAA. London is made up of exiles all individuals who had to leave these shores for employment and good luck to them all and anything they achieved this year or any other year should not be bedgrudged to them and I wish them well in the future.
Should Seannie in full fitness and willing to commit to the Cavan jersey be welcomed back to the fold off course he should and why not.
Before you start shouting at me that I am a runner in and should not have an opinion well I have and I say as I feel it, In the right frame of mind attitude and fitness any club in Cavan including the County set up would welcome him back.
TAKE THE BLINKERS OFF AND REMEMBER GAA IS AN AMATEUR GAME NOT PROFESSIONAL GAME.
In my book he would be welcome back if he were to give his all for the jersey. (He owes you people nothing)
