Hurling in West Clare

(Oldest Posts First)

Its great to see Hurling thriving in Clare like never before.
Has the game spread to West Clare though, I know its where the football is but was there not Hurling clubs here before, The likes of Kilkee and Kilrush would have good populations for Hurling clubs and for the game to develop there. Was there a club called clonboney or something near Miltown Malbay at one time or did lissycasey ever have a team where Colin Lynch was from. I think theres a club in Lisdoonvarna now but do they have an adult team.
Clubs like Kilnamona, Kilmaley, Inagh, Ennistymon are in close proximity to west clare so no reason why it cant develop there.

Colin Lynch Hurled with Kilmaley and played football with Lissycasey

Kilkee reformed this year after a number of years absence. Clonbony field every year at underage level. Neither club have underage structures as far as I am aware which suggests a difficult future. Currently, Kilmaley & Ballyea are doing their best to keep the gospel spread west by accommodating underage players as isolated players. Bizarrely, they are criticised in some quarters "as taking advantage of the situation" rather than being praised for the promotion of hurling

it would be great if the likes of Kilkee and Kilrush could form Junior Teams at Least. Must be some interest in Hurling in these parts considering the county is doing so well generally. The Burren would be a big catchment area too but id say any adult here plays for Corofin or Tubber

as far as im aware they have games down to b played this wkend and even have provisions to play midweek games under lights in order to have it played off in tin time for munster club championship. very unfair on the club players but I suppose it has been justified now. we in limerick would definatly take it
