(Oldest Posts First)

At an all time low

I wouldnt say the standard of football is much worse now than it used to be, bar 1992 of course.

Hurling on the other hand is quite poor at senior level at the moment but it terms of underage is very very strong this year. We were always going to need 3-4 years rebuilding, and if we can beat Limerick in the final, playing division 1 next year will speed up the rebuilding process (and yes, we can beat that Limerick team they are certainly no world beaters).

We were All Ire under 21 champions 09, munster minor champions and all ireland runners up (in a game we should have won) in 2010. If I was a betting man I would put a few quid on Clare's minor team to win the All Ireland this year. We have some POTENTIAL fine senior players in that team with the like shanahan, morey, galvin, kelly and o donnell and what is more pleasing is the fact that our minors appear to be strong where our seniors are week, down the spine of the team and in particular the half back line.

All and all, the standard of our senior team is poor at the moment but I would put it down to experience and belief more than anything. Things were always going to get worse before they got better and in three years with the 09 under 21s and the current minors we will be back challenging seriously for munster titles. That is a fact.

Oh ya and this sort of negativity does nothing to help the boys!!! Support them and stop bashing. A true Clare hurling supporter would look at the positives, of which there are plenty!

No bother lohansredhelmet looking forward to the hurling final??big one for us.. biggest of the year ya reckon??
Football got a big shot in the arm this evening with the minors beating limerick in the gaelic grounds. Now a home semi final against cork and you just never know what would happen. Win that and your guaranteed an all ireland q/final in croke park. Be a massive lift

is the gaa in the county suffering as a result of the growth of other sports i.e rugby?

No sashman, I don't think so.
Soccer has always been strong and I don't think that rugby has made as big an impact as people think.

I think the biggest threat to the county now is emigration and theres also the point when lads turn 17- 18 and then start drinking and chasing Woman if we can do something to keep the lads interested in playing higher level and make it rewarding we might see Clare competing once again and that starts from the County Board

Lohansredhelmet; you'd swear that someone stating their views here will have a detrimental effect on the players, management and set-up. Its a FORUM. People are entitled to express their views, and if they don't agree with your blinkered vision, well its just tough titty.

I am just encouraging the support of young team in transition. Of course young inter county players do check forums when their names are mentioned. I am simply alluding to the fact that not all criticism is constructive..... The Clare team is young and you get inconsistencies with youth at any sport. Allowances must be made for this fact.

Anyway, look where the "expression of opinion" got Limerick over the past couple of seasons. You have a short memory lad.

Nothing wrong with my memory. If those expressions of interest gave a few players a kick in the rear and it keeps a few big shots quiet then I'm all for it. The camp is quiet because some of the superstars got the message that they can be dropped. If they refocus now and actually win something, then I'll welcome the bigger picture.

Lad.

So what your saying is the Limerick fallout over the past couple of years was a good thing? Come out of the clouds!!!

You bet it was. We have had great managers over the years, and some great players too. We have always had potential, but unfortunately we had a number of prima donnas on the team who were always guaranteed a starting place. And when we lost, it was always someone else's fault, instead of them shouldering some responsibility. (Not all players, just a notable few). I'm certainly not Justin Mcs greatest fan, but he did something that should have been done a few years previous. In fact, I have no doubt that part of the reason why the camp is quiet is because the players have seen what can happen if they step out of line, and by that I mean, bringing negative attention upon them and their team. I think McCarthy actually did Limerick hurling a favour in the long run. Just my opinion.
