An Tóchar cruised to their first Wicklow senior football championship title since 1995 with a 0-21 to 1-7 victory over Blessington in Aughrim this afternoon.
After having conceded a Patrick O’Connor goal five minutes in, the would-be winners got motoring with points from Conor Fee (3) and John Paul Nolan (2) before the both attackers registered more score towards the end of the first-half that left it honours even come half-time (0-9 to 1-6).
Fee fired An Tóchar in front within four minutes of the restart, with John Paul and Eanna Nolan raising white flags to stretch their team’s lead.
Darragh Fee’s score would leave five points between the teams, and Eanna Nolan and Ger Byrne added points that had the scoreboard reading 0-16 to 1-6 with 47 minutes on the clock at Echelon Park.
Champions in 2023, Blessington would only register one more point through Mikey O’Connor in the time that remained, as Conor Fee added three more at the other end to bring his personal tally for the day to 0-10.
John Paul Nolan and Oisin Cullen rounded off the scoring for the Roundwood men as they ended their club’s 31-year wait for the Miley Cup in style.
