Wexford had to dig deep to see out out a crucial 1-30 to 1-26 win over Antrim at Chadwicks Wexford Park this evening.

After Cathal Dunbar’s 13th minute goal had helped them towards a 1-19 to 1-10 half-time lead, the Slaneysiders were made hold off a fightback from the visitors in the second-half.

Conal Cunning’s superb free-taking would keep the Saffrons in touch until the finish, with margin down to four in injury-time before Richie Lawlor’s point in the 72nd minute settled Wexford nerves.

That last puck of the evening would see Cunning completing his 0-13 tally but it wouldn’t be enough as Darragh Egan’s charges held out to claim the points.

The result means that the Glensmen must now defeat Kilkenny in Belfast next weekend in order to have any chance of progressing, with Wexford travelling to Dublin for what is set to be a crucial tie at Parnell Park in seven days’ time.
