A war of words has erupted between Davy Fitzgerald and his former Clare manager Ger Loughnane.

In an interview on South East Radio this morning, Fitzgerald - who has agreed to stay on at the helm of Wexford for another year - took Loughnane to task over his Daily Star column in the wake of the Model County championship exit at the hands of the Banner County on Sunday.

"My honest opinion is that I feel a bit sorry for him, Ger doesn't get involved with any clubs and hasn't been involved with anyone since he went to Galway and didn't have a good time,” Fitzgerald remarked.

"If you look at any of his articles, he can't read the game. But listen, he has to do what he has to do and if he's making a few quid from it grand.

"But let's just say that he wouldn't really be up with what's happening in the GAA world in my view.

"I don't actually hate Ger Loughnane, I just feel sorry for him because every single week he's having a cut at someone.

"It'll be me today and trust me it will be someone else in a few weeks.”
