Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club commenced its participation in the 2026 Slevins Coaches Senior A Hurling Championship, when playing a Round 1 match versus the 2025 Slevins Coaches Senior B Hurling Championship title winners Delvin on Sunday July 5th.
The grounds of St Oliver Plunketts Hurling and Camogie clubs, located at Robinstown, Mullingar was the venue where this fixture was played. Lough Lene Gaels 2.12 Delvin 0.11, was the match scoreline at half time. Lough Lene Gaels further added to their half time match lead as the second half progressed, eventually winning this Round 1 match by a double digits margin.

While the author of this article is all too aware of the cliche that states that there are “Lies, Damned Lies, and statistics” Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club has scored six (6) goals in a single SHAC/SHC match on at least three (3) previous occasions, prior to the Round 1 match, Lough Lene Gaels v Delvin in the 2026 Slevins Coaches SHAC. The last of those trio of three previous SHAC/SHC matches was played 49 years ago.
1974: Kinnegad - Lough Lene Gaels 6.16 (34) Delvin 4.03 (15) - Play off for semi final place.
1976: Mullingar - (Now TEG) Cusack Park - Lough Lene Gaels 6.09 (27) Brownstown 4.09 (21). 1977: Mullingar - (Now TEG) Cusack Park - Lough Lene Gaels 6.10 (28) Cullion 2.05 (11).
A remarkable fact is that the winning margin of 26 points for Lough Lene Gaels in their 6.30 to 0.22 victory versus Delvin, is actually not the greatest winning margin for Lough Lene Gaels Hurling club in a SHAC/SHC match. Lough Lene Gaels 5.22 (37) defeated St Brigids 0.07 (07), by a margin of 30 points 25 years ago in a Round 1 fixture of the 2001 SHC, a fixture that was played at Loughegar.

Numbers drawn for a lotto jackpot of €5800 at a lotto draw which took place at the Lough Lene Inn, Collinstown on Sunday night, June 28th were, 7, 10, 21 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. Two Match 3 winners, Rosemary Coffey and Derek Doyne each won €50. The Match 3 winning tickets were sold by the Lough Lene Inn and the Abbey House, Fore respectively.
